[Bug 1968548] Re: firefox snap unable to open files from file-roller

2024-08-06 Thread Damian Yerrick
The underlying cause also blocks opening README.html files installed
alongside Windows applications, because `.wine` is among the hidden
folders that Snap confinement blocks. Should I file a separate bug?

[Bug 2061698] Re: Editing image, selecting a region and it crashed GIMP_2_10_36

2024-07-16 Thread Damian Yerrick
Until someone cherry-picks the fix, a workaround is to close the
Patterns dockable dialog before copying a skinny region to the
clipboard.

[Bug 2069532] [NEW] GIMP 2.10 crashes when copying and pasting pixels

2024-06-16 Thread Damian Yerrick
Public bug reported:

I was copying and pasting a thin (152 by 2 pixels) rectangular area in a
small (160 by 144 pixels) image in GIMP 2.10.36 on Xubuntu 24.04 on a
Lenovo ThinkPad T450 laptop with an Intel Core i5-5300U CPU and 8 GB of
RAM. I got a crash. After restoring the session and repeating the copy
and paste, I got the same crash.

To reproduce:

1. In GIMP, create a new image 160 by 144 pixels
2. Choose Rectangle Select tool (press r)
3. Zoom in for the following steps
4. Drag a rectangle with upper left corner (4, 134), width 152 pixels, height 2
pixels
5. Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V

I expected the image to bee based onto a new floating selection; instead
I got a crash.

[Bug 1906740] [NEW] Set Colormap gives "invalid parameter name 'num colors'"

2020-12-03 Thread Damian Yerrick
Public bug reported:

I'm using GIMP 2.10.18-1 on Xubuntu 20.04.1. In Colors > Map > Set
Colormap, when I click the Palette: Default button to set the
replacement palette, I'm supposed to see a list of palettes from which
to choose. Instead, I get the following error:

Plug-in "script-fu"
(/usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/script-fu/script-fu)
attempted to install procedure "temp-procedure-number-6" with invalid parameter
name "num colors".

These forum references claim that this error is specific to versions
2.10.16 and 2.10.18 and was fixed in 2.10.20:

[Bug 1854386] Re: Stuck on show applications overlay (can't close it)

2019-12-11 Thread Damian
Sorry for the long wait - I've just tried to uninstall all gnome-shell
extensions I had, it turned out I have one that was causing the problem
- 'workspaces to dock', that I tried to use to get more macos like
experience with workspaces (left-right swiping with cmd-right/left).
Uninstalling it solved the problem.

Now I'll need to find another solution for that extension, but at least
this bigger issue is resolved. Thank you very much for your help!

[Bug 1854386] Re: Stuck on show applications overlay (can't close it)

2019-11-30 Thread Damian
** Description changed:

  Hello,

I've upgraded my ubuntu 19.04 to 19.10 this morning and I came across
  this very annoying bug.

Whenever I click on 'show applications' or press win key (shortcut), the
menu with the applications show, but it's empty - you can search through
it and it works fine (applications show, one can trigger application
launch), but then after you select an application, the menu doesn't
  disappear at all.

It doesn't go away when pressing any application on the dash panel, nor
when clicking esc key, it only goes away after you click on the dash
  icon again, BUT...

It doesn't really go away - it just becomes invisible, but still it
overlaps all the items that are launched (with exception of dash panel,
because it's not being overlapped), and you can't do anything on any
launched application. Sometimes when you try to move some windows, you
can see them getting transformed into a miniature, as if the system
wanted to insert application into the suggestions on the 'show
  applications'.

The only thing that worked for me was restarting my computer.

+ Here is a movie of this happening:

[Bug 1854386] Re: Show application renders computer unusable (invisible overlap)

2019-11-30 Thread Damian
It seems like a similar issue to this:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/issues/1633
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/issues/1686

It don't know exactly which package this problem lies in, but it might
be gnome-shell (you would know better). Might be that the problem is
already solved, and just bumping the gnome package would solve it.

[Bug 1854561] [NEW] Show application renders computer unusable (invisible overlap)

2019-11-30 Thread Damian
Public bug reported:

It seems like a similar issue to this:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/issues/1633
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/issues/1686

It don't know exactly which package this problem lies in, but it might
be gnome-shell (you would know better). Might be that the problem is
already solved, and just bumping the gnome package would solve it.

** Affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Invalid

** Package changed: ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu) => gnome-shell
(Ubuntu)

I would like to add that this bug occurs during each Ubuntu release
cycle. This is the third time running for me (at least), starting with
11.10.

Thankfully it has been fixed relatively quickly each release. Hopefully
the same happens with 12.10.

Thank you.

[Bug 994628] [NEW] Email compose HTML color select box hangs the interface

2012-05-04 Thread Damian O'Donnell
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

When selecting color on Email compose in Evolution the interface hangs
and will not take input. The application is still resonding i.e.
checking for mail and calendar reminders, but all button, text fields
and menus do not respond. If you try to close the compose window using
the unity window buttons, the save change diaglog opens but these
buttons do not work either (mouse or keyboard).

The only way to stop the application is xkill or kill.

[Bug 925275] [NEW] IP information field on Devices tab is too small to show the information

Public bug reported:

The IP Information field on the General tab of Network Tools is too
small vertically to be able to display the information. A scrollbar is

that looks weird for a single line of text. Does not appear to be a way
to resize the box to display the information without scrolling.

[Bug 880703] Re: Accepting calendar invitations fails with "Unable to send item to calendar ''. No such interface `org.gnome.evolution.dataserver.Calendar' on object at path /org/gnome/

2011-11-14 Thread Damian Only
Even if I try to add the event to my personal, and off-line calendar, I
get the same error. Is not only a problem with Google Calendar.

As a temporary solution, killing the e-calendar-factory process and
restarting Evolution makes possible to a accept invitations again.

[Bug 849110] Re: Regression: keyboard backlight hotkeys no longer work

2011-10-19 Thread Damian Beltrami
Another issue with the workaround is that the backlight does not obey
the ambient light sensor. That is, the backlighting always comes on
regardless of whether there is sufficient light detected or not. While
not ideal, this is better than no backlight at all!

[Bug 849110] Re: Regression: keyboard backlight hotkeys no longer work

2011-09-27 Thread Damian Beltrami
Still not working on my Sony Vaio S (11.10 Beta 2).
Always worked with 11.04 and stopped working somewhere between Beta 1 and Beta
2.

There are no keys on the Sony to switch this on and off (to my
knowledge). The keyboard backlighting is activated on keypress and if
the ambient low detected is low (I believe).

[Bug 453072] Re: Context menu for a USB pendrive shows "Unmount", "Eject" and "Safely Remove Drive"

2010-11-13 Thread Damian Yerrick
@pitti
I know why one would want to unmount or safely remove a CD drive: Not all CD
drives are CD-ROM drives; some are burners with a rewritable disc mounted in
packet writing mode. But I'll admit that packet writing becomes less common as
USB flash drives and SD card slots become more common.

[Bug 671251] [NEW] Sound Recorder doesn't convert opened file to lossy format

2010-11-04 Thread Damian Yerrick
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

When I do this in gnome-sound-recorder 2.31.6-0ubuntu2
under Ubuntu 10.10:
1. Open Sound Recorder.
2. File > Open something.wav
3. Save as something.ogg

Expected result is "something.ogg", encoded as lossy (.ogg type).
It would choose the format based on the extension, like GIMP does.

Actual result is a zero byte file called "something.ogg.wav".

Selecting email source in Evolution is not causing an X server crash
today although it did it every time before I posted the bug. I am
posting the XOrg log for that day anyway. Today I am able to select text
with the mouse when viewing source but is very slow to respond and the
window goes greyed out (not responding) if I make more than one
selection. I then have to kill Evolution.

[Bug 453072] Re: Context menu for an USB pendrive shows "Unmount", "Eject" and "Safely Remove Drive"

2010-03-12 Thread Damian Yerrick
> CD/DVD drives should have "Eject", and anything else should have
"Safely Remove"

Then what should a CF/SD reader have? I'm guessing "eject" because the
media can be removed from the drive.

Currently in 9.10, when I "unmount" a CF or SD card in my SanDisk
multiformat reader, the LED next to the CF or SD slot remains on until I
pull the card out; when I "eject", it turns off. When I "safely remove",
both the SD and CF LEDs turn off and so does the "main power" LED until
I disconnect the USB cable and reconnect it.

How easy is it for the underlying system to distinguish an SD reader
with an SD card in it from a USB thumb drive? The former should get
"eject", the latter "safely remove".

displays error notice: "Wrong resolution ". Gnome don't wait to
confirm resolution cause there in no confirm button, and save wrong res
in user config.

Now user can't use Gnome to change resolution, and use Gnome anymore.

p.s. If someone would write here in which gnome config file can I change
user res I would be very happy :)

[Bug 257182] Re: workspace columns lost without switcher

2008-10-17 Thread Damian Johnson
How is this not a bug? If the user has the panel then workspace
dimensions work properly. However, if it's removed then all workspaces
are 'flattened' (ie, Ubuntu forgets the rows attribute). My issue isn't
that it's reverted when re-adding the component (though that's not good)
but that it needs the panel around (and visible) to get Gnome to
remember that there's multiple rows. In other words preference data is
being contained in a UI component which is bad design. I'm not 'creating
a new object' when it's reverted to a 1x4 workspace via restarting.
