[Bug 579104] [NEW] Rhythmbox hangs if started with connected Sandisk Sansa

2010-05-11 Thread David Tomaschik
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

With my Sansa Fuze connected, starting rhythmbox gets so far as to load
the icon in the Indicator Applet, but doesn't proceed any further.
Clicking on the icon does not display any menu.

To reproduce:
1.) Attach Sansa Fuze
2.) Start Rhythmbox
3.) Note that rhythmbox doesn't function

Expected behavior:
Rhythmbox starts and allows interaction with the fuze.

If I connect the Fuze after starting Rhythmbox, everything seems fine.

[Bug 437924] [NEW] gnome-terminal crashes on reset in remote ssh session

2009-09-27 Thread David Tomaschik
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

I had connected via SSH to a remote machine (running Debian stable) and
then run sudo su - (yes, I know sudo -i gives similar behavior, but
there's an environment quirk on this machine that makes sudo su - seem
to work better) to get root. I accidentally catted a binary, so I
used reset to attempt to get a sane terminal back. gnome-terminal
crashed moments later. Believing this to be a fluke of the catting, I
logged back in, sudo su - again, and figured I'd reset again. It
crashed again.

[Bug 413168] Re: Karmic upgrade not shutting off backlight after time

2009-09-13 Thread David Tomaschik
I'm experiencing the same behavior. Using xset dpms force off will
switch off the screen successfully, but only when the screensaver is not
running. Doing gnome-screensaver-command --lock xset dpms force

as a black screen with a mouse cursor on it. At present, I'm having to
remember to manually switch off my monitor in the evenings.

[Bug 94230] Re: thumbnails privacy violation hazard

2009-02-10 Thread David Tomaschik
Whatever solution is found should DEFINITELY be made an optional one. I
regularly work with a lot of image files, and I would HATE it if
thumbnails constantly had to be regenerated. .thumbnails is essentially
a cache for the file browser.

What RISK is associated with the .thumbnails directory? Only someone
with access to your computer can see the files. At that point, I think
you have bigger worries than some thumbnails.

[Bug 118467] Re: Feisty Gnome Umount Utility displays empty Info Boxes on Failure

2008-01-21 Thread David Tomaschik
I've reported this into the Gnome bugtracker:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=511139

Hopefully we can get an upstream fix.

2008-01-21 Thread David Tomaschik
This bug seems to still affect people quite regularly. There were
several additional reports that I've marked as duplicates in hopes of
consolidating the information.

[Bug 8764] Re: Disk doesn't show free space in 'filesystem'

2008-01-16 Thread David Tomaschik
At least as of Hardy Alpha 3, this bug seems to be fixed on my system.
Right clicking on Filesystem provides a nice graph of free and used
space. (but only for the fs mounted on /). Upstream also seems to think
it is fixed.

[Bug 118467] Re: Feisty Gnome Umount Utility displays empty Info Boxes on Failure

2008-01-14 Thread David Tomaschik
Both in Gutsy and in Hardy Alpha 3, I see this same behavior only with
only 2 boxes. I receive 1 box that states that An applications is
preventing... and then an empty one with the title Unmount Error.

[Bug 118467] Re: Feisty Gnome Umount Utility displays empty Info Boxes on Failure

2008-01-14 Thread David Tomaschik
Performing an xkill on the last dialog also kills the gnome disk mounter
applet. Also, attempting to unmount from within nautilus produces only
a single dialog.

[Bug 118467] Re: Feisty Gnome Umount Utility displays empty Info Boxes on Failure

2008-01-14 Thread David Tomaschik
A little more information: it seems that mount_result in drive-button.c
of gnome-applets produces its own error dialog in addition to that
produced by gnome-umount in gnome-mount. Is this dialog necessary at
all? It seems that char *error is empty anyway.

[Bug 138097] Re: Title doesn't update when exiting a root shell

2007-09-07 Thread David Tomaschik
Terminal only sets the title as directed by the shell. The root shell
probably has a configuration parameter in PROMPT_COMMAND to set this.
If your standard user account does not, it will not tell gnome-terminal
to change it back. Look at /root/.bashrc for a line with
PROMPT_COMMAND. A similar line in your user .bashrc will allow gnome-
terminal to display a proper line as well (or you can remove it from
root and avoid it ever changing from Terminal).

[Bug 67307] Re: EDGY RC, USB storage devices no longer mounted

2007-08-22 Thread David Tomaschik
I think the problem is hald-based. I've read reports that hald only
reads group memberships from /etc/group on startup and will only accept
those users listed in the plugdev group there. Group permissions
assigned by LDAP are not considered. I've got a whole lab of computers
experiencing this same problem. With users being added on a daily
basis, maintaining local /etc/group would be a complete nightmare.
