[Bug 976534] Re: Rhythmbox cummulates memory in precise - probably memory leak
Yup. This is with all plugins and crossfading backend disabled, too. It *looks like* its caching the song in memory, and never releasing it - memory usage goes up every time there is a song change, be it natural or prompted (ff/rewind buttons). [Bug 44992] After installing applications on Ubuntu Dapper Beta un-affected Debian menu entries disappear
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-menus This is Ubuntu Dapper Beta. Debian menu is installed. Alacarte was used to edit the menu a number of times. After installing application with Synaptic, many entries (whole categories) from the Debian menu disappear. It seems that the entries that are on top are gone most often (i.e. Databases is most often gone, while Viewers which is much lower is left intact most often). This happens even if un-related programs are installed, in other words even if programs that do not necessarily have a menu entry in a particular menu category will make that category disappear sometimes. The way to fix the problem is to run update-menus script after each time that Synaptic is run. Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. Install some applications with Synaptic 2. Check the Debian menu structure Actual Results: Some parts of the Debian menu will disappear. NOTE: There isn't any consistency as to how many categories from the menu disappear. Expected Results: Applications that do not have any entries in the particular menu categories shouldn't affect the menu structure at all How often does this happen? Everytime, but the number of affected menu entries that are gone, varies greatly, sometimes the whole subcategories are gone, sometimes just a few menu entries. Additional Information: Perhaps that there an update script that re-generates the menus but which is not allowed to run to completion. So if the menu is being re-generated but the script is killed only a part of the menu is processed and appears in the menu structure. ** Affects: gnome-menus (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed -- After installing applications on Ubuntu Dapper Beta un-affected Debian menu entries disappear https://launchpad.net/bugs/44992 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

(PS: Exchange works FAR better under Dapper than it ever did in Breezy. I daresay its awesome.) -- Set Status filter just doesn't work https://launchpad.net/bugs/38477 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

No, doesn't seem to be. Created a new filter with the same rules applying to a POP account - same result. Oh, awesome! Thanks a lot. (Took me a while to find this bug, because I kept looking for ways to get a debug on Nautilus... but it wasn't crashing, it was closing, and apparently this is planned behavior.) -- Removing any entry from the left pane closes Nautilus https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/36500 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 38477] Set Status filter just doesn't work
Public bug reported: Affects: evolution (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: I have a rule in Evolution that goes like this: When any message with SRC: in the subject line comes in, do the following: - Move it to FolderX - Set its status to read The first part works just fine - but the second part, setting the status to read, has never worked. All of the messages are still in bold, still showing as unread. -- Set Status filter just doesn't work https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/38477 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 36500] Re: Removing any entry from the left pane closes Nautilus
I would expect the Tree view to shift to the folder above it, and then I'd expect the right pane to reflect the contents of this new folder. I think the behavior I just outlined is not only expected, but practiced by nearly every other file manager on the planet, and none of them close (crash) when a folder is deleted. -- Removing any entry from the left pane closes Nautilus https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/36500 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 35229] Totem 1.4.0: Crash on startup (workaround inside)
Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/35229 Comment: Sebastien: Totem does not crash when opened by launching something (double-clicking on a song or movie), or any other method by which the .png is not used. It has been working (by launching something) this whole time - it only crashes whenever the .png is called. The original workarounds (changing image size, deleting image altogether) still allow T to work without crashing when just launched by itself (valid as of five minutes ago). -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 35229] Totem 1.4.0: Crash on startup (workaround inside)
Public bug reported: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/35229 Affects: totem totem-xine (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: I discovered the following bug today: When starting totem, I receive a crash that looks like the following: The program 'totem' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)'. (Details: serial 65 error_code 1 request_code 141 minor_code 13) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.) I have an i915 on-board video. If I open Totem by _clicking on a movie or song_, Totem works just dandy. At home, Totem opens, but the logo in the video window peels into place (from top to bottom), a process that takes about five seconds. Based on that, I went into /usr/share/totem, and renamed totem_logo.png to totem_logo.png.old - wouldn't you know it, this fixes the problem. Apparently, Totem trying to render .pngs can be problematic. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 35229] Totem 1.4.0: Crash on startup (workaround inside)
Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/35229 Comment: More information on this: I've noticed, on every system I've ever installed Ubuntu on (about twenty, now), that Totem will VERY RELIABLY crash whenever it attempts to play any video of sufficient resolution. I have a couple of really high-definition videos (one is 1024x768, and one is 1280x1024) that Totem simply cannot run. I can produce this error just about anywhere. I think (but can't prove) that this has to do with the amount of available video RAM - the 1280x1024 will crash my computer here and at home; but the 1024x768 video runs at home (where I have a 6600GT, instead of an i915 onboard). The splash screen for totem (the cutboard with the word totem on it) is currently a 1280x1024 PNG. Based on how slow it is to open this image (on my home machine - takes about five seconds for the image to peel into place from the top to the bottom), and based on the fact that it straight up crashes here, I'm willing to bet that Totem is trying to open that PNG as a movie, and this creates the reliable crash I've listed above. Workaround: Scaling down the image resolution for totem_logo.png (= 720 pixels wide), or removing totem_logo.png altogether both allow Totem to open as usual. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 13986] MP3/AAC not offered as encoding formats in Preferences, even with encoders+gstreamer plugins for these installed
Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/13986 Comment: gnome-audio-profiles-properties is the UI for that, what's wrong with it ? I'll reply, if he won't. GAPP is not much of a UI at all, and requires the user to find and type in some google-for-it text string that appears to make no sense to a non-coder. Additionally, one has to make a profile for every different MP3 bitrate (should one wish to change it); this whole profile garbage really does need to be re-thought. Goobox does this much better - you select what kind of file you want (ogg, mp3, wav, flac, whatever) and have sliders for the bitrates. (It doesn't do VBR stuff in GUI, which sucks, there should be a checkbox for that, but still, it gets MUCH, MUCH closer to useable than the horribly failed profile metaphor does). Basically, I agree and can make arguments for the original poster's point, which is this: The GUI for encoding filetypes/bitrates (gnome- audio-profiles-properties) is so terrible that it can be classified as a huge bug. It's not useable. It took me close to an hour of reading to even figure out what I needed to activate MP3, and close to another to figure out what Gstreamer needed to make the MP3's I wanted. All of this could have been done with about 10 seconds worth of slider interaciton. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 35112] MP3 track times are incorrect
Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/35112 Comment: Again, offtopic, but id3mux didn't work. Does this even count as a bug? I think it should, because the default sound-ripping option for Ubuntu (sound-juicer) doesn't really make good MP3 rips _at all_, and Dapper is supposed to be all about polish. This is not a complaint, I'm just saying. It's bad enough (what with the pipeline thing, and the no tags thing, and the track-length thing) that I have actually stopped using Sound-Juicer for the time being (using GRIP now). Which is a shame, because I really liked SJ enough to fix the tags myself, but the track time thing is kind of a showstopper for me. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/31554 Comment: Sebastien: I respectfully disagree with this being marked as a duplicate of bug #28991. I read #28991 before I submitted this: that one deal with hotpluggable and network drives (i.e., hotpluggable drives NOT in the /etc/fstab); I'm talking about local drives that are in the fstab. Also: Changing the gconf keys (/apps/nautilus/desktop/network_icon_visible and /apps/nautilus/desktop/volumes_visible) do NOT fix the problem, like they do in bug #28991.
