[Bug 1625790] [NEW] Cannot enter character via shift-ctrl-u shortcut

[Bug 1094981] [NEW] Bluetooth not working
Public bug reported: I can't make use of Bluetooth on a Quantal laptop, freshly installed with the release version of Quantal and kept up-to-date from there. Symptoms: * No bluetooth icon shows up in my menu bar, even though I've enabled bluetooth in the bluetooth preferences. * The "add device" window just scans forever, and never lists any devices even though I know there are bluetooth-visible phones nearby. It doesn't ever seem to time out either. * I did previously manage to pair to my phone, although I never got the pairing functioning properly. I can't turn it on in the UI: the grayed- out ON/OFF button simply does not respond. * Nor can I initiate the connection from the phone, on that same pairing, even with the laptop made visible for good measure. The phone says the laptop is not responding. * Deleting the existing pairing (on both the phone and the laptop) does not make the phone visible in the devices list. It still scans forever without showing anything. * A different phone which I've never paired with before does not show up in the listing either (after telling it to make itself visible and, again for good measure, making the laptop visible as well). My old laptop, continually upgraded from beta to beta and finally arriving at Quantal, had similar problems in its final days. On that laptop I saw things degrade in steps over Precise and Quantal — a pairing dialogue showing up once briefly but never again so I couldn't complete the pairing; Nautilus crashing right after listing files on a remote phone; inability to pair; existing pairings no longer working. I thought that might be the nVidia chipset or the aging hardware, but there's no nVidia in my new laptop and things are no better. The problem may lie somewhere deeper than gnome-bluetooth, but I don't know enough about the bluetooth infrastructure to report to the right package. Any settings at all. But Mark says there's a settings option hidden away under the "power button" now. I'll need to look at that when I get back to my test machine, probably on Wednesday. That's a pretty obscure hiding place though: it's a tiny button on the distant right-hand corner of a 24" display, whereas the new design draws all my attention to the enormous icons along the left-hand edge. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/748070 Title: No visible way to change settings -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 748022] Re: File Browser crashes on first Natty startup
Unfortunately I'm not near the system I dedicated to testing Natty, so it's hard to get more details right now. But here goes: 1. Steps taken to produce: Configure auto-login. apt-get dist-upgrade to natty. (Upgrading using update-manager hasn't worked for years on this machine, but I filed that as a separate bug). Boot for the first time. 2. Behaviour I expected: A working desktop environment. 3. Behaviour I encountered: A crash dialog as described in the bug. I don't see how the debugging procedures for feisty could help with this problem: it happened on first startup after the upgrade, but as already noted, not the second. That means I can't install the debug X server (if it's even relevant on natty!) and then reproduce the problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/748022 Title: File Browser crashes on first Natty startup -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Maybe the following information helps. I had the same problem, but could relate it back to: Case 1: files having two ID3V2.4 tags, which, as far as I can tell is definately non-standard. Closest I came to diagnosing, it seemed Rythmbox changed the one, but read the other, and so nothing got ever solved. Case 2: Another one was a file that had a ID3 tag and and APE tag. In this case I am sure the APE tag was read, but nothing was written back (there was no error reported). My rescue was MP3 Diags, installed from the Download center. Then after the next lockup, I have to reboot again, and then it's broken again. As a background note that may or may not be related: Thai also has subscript vowels that happen not to occur in the Applications / Places / System menu names. There has been some controversy over whether the vertical space for those should be counted as part of a font's size or not, and that could conceivably be confusing things. For example if you write "ดูนี้" (4 layers of characters!) one font may say its size includes the height of "ดู" and another may count only the "ด" part. I forget whether or how the upper two characters in นี้ are counted, but the "base" line of text (the equivalent of the height of x in English typography) is only as high as the ดน part. -- Gnome panel got one line bottom when login as Thai language. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/591561 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 531312] [NEW] Hard to recover from bad resolution
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center Variants of this problem have come up before, notably in bug 224229 a few years ago. After playing a game on my 1920×1200 display, due to the usual failure to change back to normal resolution, I got stuck in (if I recall correctly) 640×480 resolution. Four things made it hard to return to my previous resolution: 1. I couldn't reach the menu, apparently because it was rendered in the same place as some icons on my menu bar. It was the menu titles that were displayed, but the icons that grabbed my mouse clicks. Luckily one of my attempts accidentally opened a terminal, so I could start the preferences that way. Not something we can count on happening to the average user! 2. When I did manage to start the display prefs, its window appeared entirely outside the visible screen. So I tried right-clicking its entry in my window list and picking Move from its menu. 3. The menu for the window-list entry did not show up normally. Instead I got a blank menu with scroller widgets at the top and bottom. Something I might have anticipated if the menu would not have fit the screen, but it did. 4. After picking my usual resolution, I tried to click OK. But this again fell outside the visible screen, and because of the size of the preferences window, was hard to bring inside the visible area. I made a guess at the number of times I needed to hit ; moving the window with pressed would also have worked. But not something the average user would know. ** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Hard to recover from bad resolution https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/531312 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 454751] Re: Bad colour in any video after running totem
I'm seeing the same thing on a June 2009 MacBook Pro (though in my case the comparison base was mplayer, not kaffeine). If I play a video in mplayer after boot, it comes up in normal colours. If I then play it in totem, it comes up in weird colours, and after that mplayer does the same thing. The need to reboot makes it hard to get the details straight, but faces look blue, blue skies look brown, green shows as purple, and red comes up as green. Light vs. dark does look normal; it seems to be purely a matter of hue. I too use the proprietary nvidia driver, version 185. The driver's XVideo settings are all set to 0, which looks like it's the right place for them to be. -- Bad colour in any video after running totem https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/454751 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gstreamer0.10 in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 408764] [NEW] missing window decorations after reboot
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: metacity After each reboot there are no window decorations. I have to (re)set the vissual effects after each reboot in the "Uiterlijk" (dutch app name) or "Themes" application in the System -> Preferences menu to restore them. However this only works for the current session. I completely removed all compiz packages to rule out this beeing a compiz problem. Also reinstalled the metacity packages. [Bug 122941] Re: compiz.real crashed with SIGSEGV in exit()
I had this bug today after installing the Nvidia 100.14.11 driver. I rebooted and the resolution of gdm and my desktop was set to 1024x768, while it should be 1280x1024. [Bug 36891] Unable to defocus gnome-menu using keyboard
Public bug reported: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/36891 Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: I can't focus other windows using just the keyboard when the gnome-menu is focussed. Steps to reproduce: 1. Open a random application. 2. Press Ctrl-Alt-Esc to focus the main menu bar. 3. Press the right arrow key to make the applications-menu appear. 4. Try to focus the window of the application opened at step 1 using only the keyboard. Expected results: Pressing Ctrl-Alt-Esc should give the focus to the application window (possibly after pressing it a few times), and preferable Atl-tab as well.
