I would say it is an indicator-applet bug because the same issue is present in
the xfce4-panel indicator when it is placed on the bottom.
It is easily reproducible in the network indicator when it populates the wifi

left margin seems small, just few pixels.. anyway it is not the only movement
and stretch of wallpaper.
I made a video to explain the issue better, it is a bit slow becuase it is in a
virtualmachine, from 0:36 to the end is relevant.

the big grey band on the left is visible only when metacity compositor is
disabled.
(I usually disable it with low powered machines, like virtualbox and my intel
gma500, because composite kill some performances, like scrolling in web
browsers!)
instead the small grey band seems 15px

what is wrong?
current implementation of gnome-terminal? in this case open a bug upstream in
bugzilla and ask gnome devs to fix it (if they agree with you).
speaking about css theming is not possible to fix width, only padding and style
but not width.

Highlight on+wrap on=disaster, 5-10 secs of full hanging
Highlight on+wrap off=seems usable, cpu sometimes rise
highlight off+wrap off=works like a charm...
well i'd like to use highlight and wrapping as well :-)

I can't edit any .sql document that gedit consumes 100% cpu. :-/
