[Bug 282122] Re: Canon EOS 450D doesn't import on F-spot

2009-03-23 Thread Martijn van de Streek
This happens for me too on jaunty with all my cameras (EOS 50D, 350D,
Ixus 70, haven't tried my Nokia phone)

It seems to happen because f-spot and (gvfs? nautilus?) both want to use
the device when it's plugged in. gvfs to mount it, f-spot to import
from it. When you unmount the icon on your desktop, f-spot will stop
complaining about the device being locked.

[Bug 346648] [NEW] Develop in UFRaw won't work in Dutch locale, because of escaping problems

2009-03-22 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

I use F-Spot in a Dutch environment, and there it creates a Foto's
folder (that's bug #127315) to import everything into.

This works great, except when trying to develop RAW files: the
DevelopInUFraw extension (or the shell?) cries when it's fed a filename
with a single quote in it (for obvious reasons).

I've attached a patch that fixes this by escaping the ' - \'

It seems fixed after the following steps:

 * Move ~/.gnome2/f-spot somewhere else
 * Start F-Spot
 * Quit F-spot
 * Copy photos.db from the old f-spot dir to the newly created ~/.gnome2/f-spot
 * Start F-Spot (menus are back)

[Bug 328378] Re: gnome-panel doesn't respond

2009-02-15 Thread Martijn van de Streek
That backtrace is still not OK, but I've been trying for almost an hour,
and I can't seem to get a good one either.

I think the problem is either with threading (in the panel itself, or
libedataserver1.2-11) or the gnome-keyring calls it does (that's where
most traces end up). I keep seeing connection refused calls to the
g-k-d socket. The environment variables don't match the real gnome-
keyring PID for some reason.

[Bug 316337] [NEW] Generated m4a files for mtp device don't play on device

2009-01-12 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

My entire music collection is FLAC-encoded, so when I drag music from
rhythmbox to my device, it should convert it to a format that's
supported by my player.

It used to (in intrepid) convert to MP3, and this worked great, but in
jaunty rhythmbox creates m4a files, and while that shouldn't be a
problem (the device should support MPEG4 Audio, according to mtp-detect;
most built-in ringtones are .aac), the files won't play. Tags are read
correctly, it can also see the track length, but it won't play the
files.

mtp-detect output:

[Bug 316007] [NEW] Rhythmbox doesn't put music files in the Music directory on mtp devices

2009-01-11 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

This used to work in intrepid, but in jaunty, rhythmbox throws
everything in the device's root instead of in the Music directory. This
has two bad effects:

 * Internally, the device uses FAT, with a ~100 file limit in the root
 * The music player on the device doesn't find music if it's not int he Music
directory.

The MTP library does detect a special Music directory (part of mtp-detect
output):
Special directories:
   Default music folder: 0x00798f70
   Default playlist folder: 0x
   Default picture folder: 0x
   Default video folder: 0x
   Default organizer folder: 0x
   Default zencast folder: 0x
   Default album folder: 0x
   Default text folder: 0x

Again, this used to work in intrepid, but it's broken now in jaunty.

tags on those files seem to be double. Both my music player and totem's

[Bug 212117] [NEW] gnome-appearance-properties forces me to install fglrx for desktop effects, while they work fine with the free driver

2008-04-05 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Public bug reported:

I have an ATI Mobility X700, which works fine (in both 2D and 3D mode)
with the free 'radeon' driver (I used it in gutsy, and it worked before
I did a reinstall). But for some reason, gnome-appearance-properties
wants to force me to install the non-free fglrx driver.

This is not desirable for several reasons: I'd like my machine to use as
much free software as possible, and fglrx tends to be a bit less stable
(in my experience).

So please, could you re-enable the desktop effects button(s) for my
video card _without_ it requiring fglrx?

[Bug 182492] Appearance dialog doesn't fit on 800x480 display

2008-01-13 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

I have an Asus Eee PC, and I've noticed that the Appearance dialog
doesn't fit on the screen. This is annoying, because the bottom part
drops off, which contains the Close button.

The dialog should be made smaller, or have a special small screen mode
which make it work nicely on small displays.

[Bug 178558] Re: Firefox 3.0 makes everything annoyingly huge

2008-01-04 Thread Martijn van de Streek
No, the DPI shouldn't be set to 96 on a 150dpi screen. It should be set
to 150.

firefox should cope and offer a way to configure its size (for people
who like small images with large text), instead of forcing everything to
be huge.

[Bug 145657] Age of contacts with birthdate 1970 always looks like they were born in 1970

2007-09-27 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

When I enter a birthdate for a contact, and that birthdate is before
1970, the age on the Birthday calendar will be wrong: it appears as if
the contact has been born in 1970, instead of his/her real birth year
(so it shows 37 for 2007, 38 for 2008, etc)

I don't think this is a duplicate. I've forced the age to 1960 by using

'1960' in other places (most notably, the contact details page in
Evolution (when you click on a contact and see his details in the bottom

[Bug 141160] Re: When remote desktop access is disabled, vino-session will still run

2007-09-25 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Just setting/unsetting a key in gconf won't start a daemon. That's what
the session bit does -- it watches the gconf key, and starts a daemon if
it's changed to true (I guess). So you'd have to log out and back in
again for the daemon to start if you changed the key manually. So gnome-
session should be taught to run daemons when certain gconf keys change.

Or you could make the preferences applet start the daemon (but that
depends on the applet running on the same $DISPLAY)... or something.

[Bug 118745] Re: default desktop/panel menu font sizes too small

2007-06-26 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Tim, you should try to set the font to the right size, while keeping the
DPI the same, calculated value. The DPI is getting more and more
important as high-pixel-density monitors appear (I have a 150dpi laptop
here), as people usually don't want to read 5 pixel high fonts on those
screens. If we get more programs to cope with DPI properly, we won't
have to solve this problem in the future, when all panels are 150dpi.

[Bug 115482] Nautilus doesn't cope with tiny fonts, and goes into SIGSEGV loop

2007-05-18 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

(this might be a related to bug #114498 -- my fonts are size 7)

I have my fonts set to a tiny size, because my display is 150DPI. For
some reason, Nautilus doesn't like this, and goes into a SIGSEGV loop.

If Nautilus is started at the beginning of the session, it works until I
click an icon on the desktop or try to open a Nautilus window from the
Places menu. If I then killall -9 nautilus, and restart it by hand,
it'll go into the crash loop immediately.

Setting the font size to 8 instead of 7 makes the crashes go away.

I'll attach the nautilus-debug-log.txt

[Bug 114498] GTK font selection minimum size is too large for 150dpi screens

2007-05-13 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libgtk2.0-0

I've recently upgraded to Gutsy, and the fonts in my programs became
larger. This is actually good: GTK is now paying attention to the DPI of
my screen.

However, my screen has an absurd DPI (147x145; 1920x1200 @ 15.4), and I
don't need large fonts, so I set my font size smaller.

I noticed that all GTK font selection dialogs have a minimum size of
8.0, which is actually still at bit large (compared to pixel density).
It's possible to manually enter a lower value (and I did), but I think
that a few values lower than 8 should be present, especially because
more high-pixel-density panels are expected in the future.

[Bug 95355] Tooltips partially obscured when using larger mouse cursors

2007-03-24 Thread Martijn van de Streek

I have my mouse cursors set to a larger size, and that works great, but
the tooltips in most programs tend to pop up behind the cursor,

size when determining where to display.

[Bug 70705] Re: Totem doesn't use .asx playlists correctly

2007-01-10 Thread Martijn van de Streek
No, all servers are currently up.

You can fake it by getting the .asx I linked to, and changing the first
URI to a place that gives you Connection Refused (I changed it to
'http://localhost:12345/).

I've attached a 'fixed' (I've done the - amp; conversion, so that's
not a problem anymore) version of the live64.asx, but with
http://localhost:12345/ instead of http://switch.streamgate.nl/; which
breaks it again: it won't skip to the second stream when the first
stream gives a 'Connection Refused'.

[Bug 70705] Totem doesn't use .asx playlists correctly

2006-11-07 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Public bug reported:

Dutch public radio is available online, using some kind of windows audio
stream. Usually, this works correctly in Totem, but today it didn't.

Nothing has changed in the asx files, but one of the listed servers
seems to be down. Instead of failing over to the next server, totem pops
up an error claiming Connection refused (which is wrong, it's 500:
Internal server error).

If I use the Windows mediaplayer, or play the alternative directly, it
works correctly.

[Bug 12585] tsclient uses LC_CTYPE not LC_MESSAGES for banner with words

2006-10-07 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Public bug reported:

The top part of the tsclient connect window has a graphical banner in it. The
language of this banner is defined by LC_CTYPE (via gtk_get_default_language()).

This breaks for my setup, where everything is nl_NL, except LC_MESSAGES, which
is en_GB.

There are 2 fixes possible: use a different way of retrieving the locale, and
use LC_MESSAGES, or fix GTK's gtk_get_default_language() to return LC_MESSAGES
(which, I think, might fix a lot of other bugs like this as well -- but it might
also introduce more bugs..)

Yes.

Setting LANG=nl_NL.UTF-8 and LC_MESSAGES to C makes the entire
application show up in English, except for the banner at the top, which
is in Dutch.

Other way around make the app show up in Dutch, with the banner in
English.

The program should look at LC_ALL, then LC_MESSAGES, then LANG and use
the first valid locale.

[Bug 54819] Printers found by 'browsing' (autodetect on network) get wrong default paper size

2006-08-14 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Public bug reported:

I have a printer, loaded with A4 paper, on my network. Locally on the
print server, printing works correctly ('A4' is the default paper size,
and it's listed in the PPD as default size too).

On other machines on the network, the paper size gets set to US-Letter,
which is plainly wrong.

Assuming you mean 'local', then yes. I'm trying this on my desktop and in my

[Bug 37448] Stopped recognising MIME types by file content

2006-03-31 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Public bug reported:

Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
In warty (and possibly hoary), when I had a file without an extension,
nautilus would look inside the file to determine its MIME type, and
launch the appropriate application to view it when doubleclicked.

In breezy, this is not the case anymore. If I have (for example) a PDF
or PostScript file without an extension, its type doesn't seem to get
detected. The file HAS to have the proper file extension (.pdf or .ps)

[Bug 36539] Re: The eject button on the CD-Drive does not work for data CDs

2006-03-31 Thread Martijn van de Streek
It's most likely a hardware bug: the 'Eject' button on most CD-ROM players
doesn't send the proper signal.

On drives where it does, the disc gets unmounted and ejected properly, afaik.

[Bug 9364] Dutch ij ligature (ij)

2006-03-28 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/9364

Comment:
I still can't compose an 'ij' using Compose, i, j. I have no idea
where/how to type it otherwise (except using the Unicode hex position,
etc.).

[Bug 36373] Breaks when renaming the target of a move while moving files

2006-03-24 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/36373

Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
When I move a directory (shift+drag) across partitions, and then rename
the target directory while the move is still going on, Nautilus will
complain once it gets to the next file, and not finish the move.

As I rename the file _using nautilus_ I think this should be picked up
automatically, and adjusted for accordingly.

[Bug 33417] Gimp lost its (useful!) 'Print' dialog

2006-03-02 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/33417

Affects: gimp (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Somewhere between breezy and dapper current, Gimp lost it's File -
Print menu option (and all associated printing stuff, it seems).

This tended to be useful at times, and I'd like to see it back (or at
least see a mention of where it went/what the recommended alternative
is/etc)

[Bug 33144] Bold fonts do the mambo

2006-02-28 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/33144

Comment:
For me it happens in whole columns at once.

So if I have a high window, the entire column of bold text (usually the
ENTIRE part that's left of and below the cursor) does the mambo when I
move the cursor.

I can see this easily using vim in a perl file (the Perl syntax file in
vim uses bold a lot, it seems)

[Bug 33002] logout dialog UI regression -- please revert

2006-02-26 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/33002

Comment:
The dialog made it into dapper as part of a design that was made at UBZ
(there wasn't a good/clear shutdown dialog in breezy -- we set out to
design a better one)

Apparently, the GNOME upstream people decided this _at the same time_ as
us, and implemented dialogs that are more HIG-compliant and overall
nicer looking.
