[Bug 1852183] Re: [X11] copy/paste (clipboard) is broken in Ubuntu 19.10

2019-12-04 Thread Owen Williams
I have very inconsistent copy/paste under Wayland. Usually switching
windows and trying again fixes it, but I'd give the success rate of a
copy command working at 75%.

[Bug 41994] Re: closed Laptop Lid to reliably keep Backlight off

2010-07-12 Thread Owen Williams
This bug causes my laptop to get really hot, especially in the summer,
because the screen is acting as a radiator cooking my laptop. The
xrandr workaround isn't working for me because I'm using the proprietary
nvidia drivers. Maybe there's a way to disable any attached USB mouse
or keyboard when the lid closes, which will prevent the screen from
being woken up? that would work I think.

[Bug 591070] [NEW] xrandr fade method fails, just cuts to black

2010-06-07 Thread Owen Williams
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

I noticed recently that my laptop no longer fades to black when the
screen locks, either from suspending, logging out, or just locking the
screen. I built the gnome-screensaver package and ran test-fade, and
sure enough it doesn't fade, the screen just goes black. If I edit gs-
fade.c and disable the xrandr fade method, the screensaver uses gamma
ramps instead and this results in a proper fade.

This is with nvidia proprietary drivers and compiz.

I'm almost certain that the fades were working previously with Lucid,
this is a recent regression from the past week or two.

On a Dell 1420n of mine, recently upgraded to Intrepid, the default

However, the script in this message does work:

[Bug 49537] mixer applet no longer works

2006-06-13 Thread Owen Williams
Public bug reported:

Today, the mixer applet stopped working. If I try to add it to the
panel, all I get is:

The panel encountered a problem while loading
OAFIID:GNOME_MixerApplet.

Also every time I log in I get a message that the gnome settings daemon
restarted too many times, although everything else on my desktop works.

I see the following on the terminal:
** (mixer_applet2:12915): WARNING **: FIXME: wait for completion unimplemented

** (mixer_applet2:12907): WARNING **: Failed to send buffer

** (mixer_applet2:12907): WARNING **: Failed to send buffer

assertion `ao != NULL' failed

(mixer_applet2:12907): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_image_set_from_pixbuf:
assertion `GTK_IS_IMAGE (image)' failed

I can't tell what image it's talking about.

[Bug 31511] Re: Settings lost during an upgrade

2006-05-16 Thread Owen Williams
In my case, my primary screensaver is None (blank screen). How hard
would it be to check for at least this case?

also, re: touching user settings in a postinst of a package is a big
nono. While my settings may not have been touched in actuality, they
were effectively touched because I upgraded and suddenly my screensaver
was acting differently. I didn't know there was a switch in
screensavers.

[Bug 45020] tooltips appear instantly

2006-05-16 Thread Owen Williams
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

summary:
In breezy, Tooltips used to appear after a short delay of a few hundred
milliseconds. Now they seem to pop up instantly, which is really annoying.

steps to reproduce:
1. mouse over something, like the workspace switcher applet.
2. scrub back and forth a bit.
3. let the mouse rest.

expected results:
The tooltip shouldn't appear until after the mouse comes to a stop for 300
milliseconds (at least).

actual results:
boom, instant tooltips covering up onscreen information.

further information:
I can't find a global gconf key for this setting anywhere, so I suspect it's
hard-coded. Furthermore since many apps don't respect the global tooltip
setting, there's not much I can do about it. This doesn't seem to happen with
all applets, but launchers, the menu widget, the workspace switcher, and the
clock all do this.

** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu)
