[Bug 1987406] [NEW] No duplex scan - only frontage is scanned

2022-08-23 Thread Patrick Theis
Public bug reported:

Hi, I'm on Linux Mint 21 Vanessa and they are using the sane-airscan
package from Ubuntu as well. Current version on my system is
0.99.27-1build1. My printer is recognized as follows:

airscan-discover
[devices]
Brother ADS-2400N = http://192.168.xxx.xxx:80/WebServices/ScannerService, WSD

It is connected via LAN to a WiFi access point in my home network.

Before the system upgrade to the new Mint Version everything was OK and
I remember there was a different driver structure for remote devices.
When running a duplex scan in scanimage or GUI applications like simple-
scan now, all pages go through the automatic feed. But then, only the
front pages are visible in the output.

Duplex scanning works again since removing sane-airscan, manually
installing drivers from the Brother homepage and adding the device with
brsaneconfig.

** Affects: sane-airscan (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1971455] Re: Super slow file saves in Gimp on Kubuntu 22.04

2022-05-03 Thread Patrick Dunford
Further test after closing all Dolphin windows yielded a more typical file save
time for the 200 layer project. Additional testing to be done with the 250
layer project.
The issue with Dolphin sub processes hogging system resources will affect many
other possible uses apart from Gimp file saves and should be accorded a high
priority for resolution.

** Description changed:

  1. Kubuntu 22.04 upgraded from 20.04
  2. Gimp 2.10.30 native package.
2a. Also affects Gimp 2.99.x Beta Flatpak from Gimp Project

[Bug 1872870] Re: When zoom is enabled, mouse pointer leaves square trails on desktop

2021-05-14 Thread Patrick Smyth
So as a number of people have already observed, this bug is kind of a
showstopper for many using Gnome's magnification feature on a regular
basis, and it should definitely be fixed sooner rather than later.

However, looking at the behavior of the bug, I noticed there were no
trails when the zoom feature was on and zoomed in. They're only present
if the zoom setting is at 1.0 but the zoom feature is on. As a
workaround, I wrote a small script that adds some logic to zooming in
and out. If the feature is off and a zoom in is requested, the zoom is
set to 2.0 and then the zoom feature is turned on. If a zoom out is
requested and the updated magnification would be less than 2.0, i.e.
fully zoomed out, the new magnification is set and then the feature is
disabled. So, if you use the script to zoom in and out, you won't see
trails, since the zoom feature will be disabled at max zoom.

The script can be found on GitHub here:

https://github.com/smythp/gnome-magnifier-mouse-trails-workaround

I've provided some usage guidance in the README and added some xbindkeys
settings in another file that will replicate the default Gnome zoom in
and out shortcuts. I haven't tested it extensively, feel free to
contribute or open an issue, though no promises as to quality here.

[Bug 1922353] Re: Overview sometimes fails to appear or disappear in 21.04

2021-05-11 Thread Patrick Gillespie
My bug report, Bug 1922353, was marked as a duplicate of this one. It
probably is the same bug though the symptoms are a bit different. The
only element to "get stuck" was the Ubuntu bar, which I disabled (when
it stopped being response to touchpad or touchscreen gestures). Other
than that, while "Overview" was unreponsive to the touchscreen or
touchpad, I've always been able to "Esc" out of it. I can or can't tab
through the choices. Hitting is usually my only option after
searching for an app. Sorry I haven't more to add. I've been avoiding my
Surface Go since this bug has cropped up. :( Nothing, not even Windows,
works well on this device.

[Bug 1766230] Re: Strange window matching behaviour between Slack and Chrome

2021-02-04 Thread Patrick Vale
I am also seeing this behaviour on 20.04.1 - it is confusing. I also see it
when I open Cypress from within a terminal inside JetBrains PhpStorm - the
chrome windows opened by that are co-located with the PhpStorm 'pips'.
This makes ctrl-tabbing between open applications difficult.

Possibly worth noting--

I have the default keyboard shortcut set to lock the screen (Super + L).
Using that keyboard shortcut does nothing. However, I am able to lock
the screen by selecting 'Lock' from the gnome-shell menu on the top
navigation bar.

After setting the lock delay to 0, the problem persists- the screen is not
locked upon unsuspending.

[Bug 1880785] [NEW] Cannot enable 'Lock screen on suspend'

2020-05-26 Thread Patrick Golden
Public bug reported:

I am trying to make my laptop lock the screen upon unsuspending. I have
made sure that the setting is enabled in 'Settings > Privacy > Screen
lock > Lock screen on suspend', but my laptop opens without a lock
screen when I open it or press a key. This only started since upgrading
to Ubuntu 20.04. Previously, I would have a locked screen and be
prompted for a password upon unsuspending.

[Bug 1162475] Re: [hostnamed] Changing hostname doesn't update /etc/hosts

2019-09-30 Thread Patrick O'Keeffe
Hi apologies if this is the wrong thread. Just wanted to report I see
this issue on the Raspberry Pi build of Ubuntu MATE 16.04 running `mate-
control-center` 1.16.1-1~xenial4.0 and `systemd` 229-4ubuntu21.22.

I see resolution failures using `sudo` afterwards so even though it
still works, stdout gets polluted with error messages. I would call that
an ill effect.

** Description changed:

Hi. I have recently installed Ubuntu 19.04 RC. Everything works fine except
the Qt applications. I have two monitors and when I pass the Qt application to
the secondary monitor the characters of the application increase. They happen
to the traditionally installed Qt applications and to those installed with
Flatpak and Snap. I leave you a video in which you can see the problem with the
VLC application.

[Bug 1776686] [NEW] missing accountsservice.pc ?

2018-06-13 Thread Patrick Welche
Public bug reported:

Just tried to build gdm 3.28.2 from source on ubuntu 16.04.4.

Configure fails with:

configure: error: Package requirements (gobject-2.0 >= 2.36.0

) were not met:

Package 'accountsservice', required by 'virtual:world', not found

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

According to apt, the following are installed:

accountsservice/xenial-updates,now 0.6.40-2ubuntu11.3 amd64

query and manipulate user account information

gir1.2-accountsservice-1.0/xenial-updates,now 0.6.40-2ubuntu11.3 amd64

[Bug 1517272] Re: Can't import ssh keys

2016-01-01 Thread Patrick
I can confirm this bug on a fresh install of 14.04. I am unable to
import my keys as a result. My solution was to generate new keys for my
remote servers, but next time I hope to export/import. This bug prevents
that for the time being.

[Bug 1407152] Re: Can't log out from Plasma session with SDDM

2015-04-24 Thread Patrick T.
Don't know, if this is the same bug. I'm using the final version of
Kubuntu 15.04 (all published updates installed) - it's impossible to
shutdown the pc properly. I get a black screen but it isn't switched
off. So I have to switch it off manually and I'm scared about data on my
possibly still mounted drives... Ctrl+Alt+F1 doesn't work. I think,
keyboard doesn't accept anything at all (e.g. caps lock).

Hypernating is quite unstable - maybe it's related to this, maybe not, maybe
this could be a hint for a systemd issue. I tried to hibernate 3 times:
1st time: didn't switch off at all - only the screen flickered and was locked
afterwards
2nd time: switched off, but then switched on instantly
3rd time: switched off, but when I returned 1hr later, the computer was
running, but it didn't respond.

I've had none of these problems in Kubuntu 14.10 or 14.04...

[Bug 773896] Re: Evolution does not show persistent alarms in Unity

2014-01-13 Thread Patrick Hetu
After checking deeper into it, it's more complex than I tought. There is no
"alarm notification" either
from dbus or the evolution api. So the only possible thing that could be done
without re-inventing
everything is to patch the evolution-alarm-notify daemon to make it add an item
to the indicator.

[Bug 773896] Re: Evolution does not show persistent alarms in Unity

2014-01-08 Thread Patrick Hetu
An idea for this would be to modify evolution-indicator to make it add a
nodification
for alarms and not just emails. I'll try to findout if the alarms are
accessible in evolution API's or what
would be the way to "clear" the notifications in the indicator.

Same problem on Mint 14 KDE (based on ubuntu 12.04),

However, on my main system i dont have a problem with any ubuntu build.

the contents. reapplying those numbers will result in a viewable sheet
again, until it is once again saved.

Columns affected:
Ability score modifiers, Ability modifiers and Skill modifiers (In the Skills
section) Dex modifier and AC in the AC section.

placing numbers here will result in blank columns where the modifiers
should go and blank total modifiers.

[Bug 518230] Re: Some PDF forms don't save entered information

2013-01-20 Thread Patrick Burger
I still experience this bug with ubuntu 12.04 regarding this file. and
others like it. although it I have not tried it with the IRS tax forms.
I can upload the form to a site of your choosing if you wish. The
workaround also did not work. It accepts the data, but save the data but
the data is not viewable unless it is reentered. Even saving it again
did not work.

But this seems not to be the very problem since I have several other

[Bug 971880] Re: go on line to edit your personal information

2012-07-14 Thread Patrick Kilgore
After further investigation, I discovered a work-around.

The problem appears to be the result of an upgrade from a time where
gnome-online-accounts was used in ubuntu. My google account was added
there, and the ghosts of that addition seem to have echoed into 12.04 --
where that package is no longer included by default, it seems.

My workaround:

Install gnome-contacts: sudo apt-get install gnome-contacts
Open gnome contacts: gnome-contacts

In the GUI that opens, select Accounts button, then delete the account
from the resulting menu.

That causes the ghost to vanish in empathy.

You can now safely delete gnome-contacts.

[Bug 971880] Re: go on line to edit your personal information

2012-07-14 Thread Patrick Kilgore
I re-opened this because I am experiencing the same problem.

:~$ uname -a
Linux x200 3.2.0-26-generic #41-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jun 14 17:49:24 UTC 2012 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

This may be difficult to reproduce, because I am not sure how the "ghost
account" got there. When it is deleted, it re-appears on restart.

This maintains the behavior through a complete uninstall/reinstall of
empathy too. I removed the ~/.config/empathy/ folder too, let me know if
there is another config I can try to delete...

Pictures attached showing the behavior and the error message.

To OP - what you describe is gnome-power-manager. I am setting this
issue to confirmed as I see the issue too - on a machine that is capable
of performing a suspend, the option is not available to automatically
suspend on critical battery, at least via gnome-power-manager's GUI.

2012-06-12 Thread Patrick Santos
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this
bug as a bug in gnome-control-center.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs.

When I start Ubuntu, when I login to Unity OR Gnome (whether it being
Classic or regular Gnome), the battery indicator won't be showing in the
  status bar..

Also, when the battery indicator isn't showing, the battery isn't
- detected in Power Statistics...
+ detected in Power Statistics..
+
+ When I open Gnome-Control-Center, the Show Battery Status in Menu Bar
+ setting under Power shows a blank option, and if you choose an option,
+ it doesn't stick..

When I suspend and wake up the system, then it shows up..

I have tried other things to get it show up like Alt > F2 and "r" as the
  command

and Rebooting the system, and other things...

This happens EVERY time I reboot, and is not a one time thing so that is
how I know it is a bug..

A quick Google search shows that it affects other users, not just me, so
that is why I have changed the status of the bug to confirmed..
-

  What I expected to happen..

I expected the system to display the status of the battery without
having to put the system to "sleep" and wake the system..

  What happened?

Every time I boot up the system after it has been completely powered
off, the system doesn't display the battery indicator AND Power
Statistics doesn't recognize my laptop battery that is in a fully
functional condition (the battery isn't but 6 months old)..

What did I do for this to happen?

[Bug 958052] Re: Show battery status in menu bar does not work

2012-06-06 Thread Patrick Akridge
Battery problems in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (64 bit):

Laptop Specs..

TOSHIBA L755 with an Intel Core i3 Processor (it is 64bit, hence that is
why I use Ubuntu 64 bit) with 4GB RAM, with about a 500 GB Hard Drive
(that really doesn't matter) and a Battery and Charger that is NOT even
7 months old.. when working, Ubuntu Power Stats tells me that it has a
capacity of 99% and only can't charge about .5 Wh of about what it
should (because it is at 99% capacity).. TOSHIBA BRANDED health monitor
told me when I was using Windows 7 Home Premium that the battery had a
85% Health... None the less, the battery STILL works and lasts up to 4
or 4.5 hours depending on what I am doing.. The ONLY reason why the
battery doesn't last like a crazy 8 hours is because I am always using
the Battery to surf the web... In fact... I am using the battery right
now to post this comment

Anyways,

I also experience the problem..

Battery isn't indicated sometime (READ: Most of the time); even though
it is there.

I am using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64 bit with the LATEST updates as of 6/5/12
and am using GNOME 3.4.1 as the desktop environment.. I tried using
Unity, but it doesn't show up there, either.. None the less.. I don't
like Unity because of it's hard to use interface..

Anyways, if you put the system on Suspend (close the laptop lid), then
when you wakeup, the battery indicator will likely be there, but I need
it to be there all of the time..

I tried do the ALT + F2 and running "r" as the command and it doesn't
help at all.

I also tried various things such as logging out and logging back in AND
running "gnome-control-center" in Terminal.. no errors, but the Power
setting to show the battery status all of the time doesn't stick.. the
value doesn't stick.

That is my two cents on the battery statuses in Ubuntu 12.04...

Hope this bug will be fixed soon in the next couple of weeks in
Updates..

[Bug 1007621] Re: open file dialog in glchess is shrinked, unusable

2012-06-02 Thread Patrick Santos
Confirmed - simply click on the Chess game window and click Ctrl+O. I
suggest importance HIGH as it essentially renders the load function
useless.

Result: The "Load chess game" dialog is that the fields in the dialog window
take up a very small portion vertically on the screen, making it almost
impossible to select something.
Expected result: The dialog should be scaled correctly.

[Bug 998434] Re: sudoku quiz not solveable! :(

2012-05-12 Thread Patrick Santos
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 997504] Re: Using mouse wheel in side pane (list of files) causes skip

2012-05-11 Thread Patrick Santos
Confirmed in totem 3.0.1-0ubuntu21, using gnome-shell 3.4.1-0ubuntu2
(normal Gnome shell, not fallback 2D) as my GUI.

The procedures I took to reproduce:
1. Open Totem (with no files loaded).
2. Open Nautilus to folder(s) containing music tracks.
3. Drag-and-drop enough music files from to overflow the playlist. I used
Celestial Aeon Project albums "Fable (MP3)", "Mind's Eye (OGG)", and "Miracle
(MP3)" from jamendo.
4. Verify all files are loaded into Totem and a track is playing.
6. Click anywhere on the playlist.
7. Roll the mouse wheel up or down.

Actual result:
The track position (as reporter noted) moves, AND the position in the list of
files moves as well.

Expected result:
Only the list of files in the playlist should be affected by mouse wheel.

[Bug 990957] Re: Global keyboard shortcuts should not depend on current layout

2012-05-07 Thread Sean Patrick Santos
Here is precisely the opposite issue:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/992789

In that case, changing the *global* keyboard does not change the
*global* shortcuts when it is expected to.

[Bug 969359] Re: gnome-settings-daemon consumes 100% cpu

2012-05-02 Thread Patrick Henning
I am also encountering this bug. For me it seems to be triggered by use of
volume keys on keyboard, which correlates with what is discussed in this thread:
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=230568
A temporary workaround on fedora was to disable the media keys functionality of
gnome. So I'm thinking this is an issue with gnome more so than ubuntu itself.
