[Bug 1717241] Re: nautilus crashed with signal 5 in _XReply() - drag and drop crash
Dear Bug Triager, I have now realized that the Xorg team won't look into Xinerama issues as they claim that it's deprecated in favor of RandR. Please feel free to mark this bug as Won't Fix as that better reflects the reality of the situation from the standpoint of the Ubuntu developers. FOR ANYONE ELSE WHO MAY CARE ABOUT THIS: At some point I realized that both Xinerama and the Compiz window manager where causing this problem. Besides the bug issue reported above, the setup was causing very slow graphics performance and a few crash reports. Sticking with Nvidia proprietary drivers, I made the switch to BaseMosaic (instead of Xinerama) and moved away from the Unity/Compiz combination and on to Gnome-Classic/Metacity (Non-composite window manager). For Gnome Classic the package to install is gnome-session- flashback, and you need to use it because Unity requires a composite manager while Gnome Classic does not. This nearly solved all problems, but then I found resume from suspend not working properly. Resume from suspend was working in the sense of restarting the system again (I could ssh into it), but the display monitors remained black. The culprit was the Nvidia propietary driver, which I finally removed in favor of the nouveau driver. Last but not least, a bit of shifting monitors around with xrandr, and problem solved! To sum up, use: - Gnome Classic Desktop Environment - Metacity Window Manager - Install a dock launcher like cairo-dock if you are missing Unity's dock - Nouveau driver - NO xorg.conf file! - Xrandr if you are not getting the correct monitor layout - place the xrandr command in an executable shell script, and include the script in the startup apps. ** Description changed: + NOTE: Ubuntu won't fix this bug, but if you are interested in a work + around, read the last comment! + + ORIGINAL BUG REPORT: + To reproduce on a fully updated Ubuntu Desktop 16.04 system with Unity: Step 1: Start nautilus Step 2: Drag and drop a file to any target: to a different folder in the same nautilus window, to another folder in a different nautilus window, etc. ... ** Description changed: To reproduce on a fully updated Ubuntu Desktop 16.04 system with Unity: Step 1: Start nautilus Step 2: Drag and drop a file to any target: to a different folder in the - same nautilus window, to another folder in a different nautilus folder, + same nautilus window, to another folder in a different nautilus windows, etc. ... The target is irrelevant. Expected to happen: File successfuly copied or moved. Actually happened: Mouse pointer changes to a hand with a plus sign. [Bug 1113420] Re: Alt+ window menu shortcuts cannot be disabled
** Description changed: I find the key ergonomically very useful (it can be pressed with a thumb without moving any of the "letter" fingers) and I would like to use it for many custom keyboard shortcuts (there is a reason why it plays such a big role in Emacs and the whole OS X for that matter). Currently, though, is hardcoded to activate window menu entries (such as +F for the file menu, +E for the edit menu) and there is no way to surpass this functionality in all the applications. Personally, I find these shortcuts quite useless - they take you to "copy", "paste", and "open file" which have standard shortcuts anyway (with the exception of preferences, which for some reason don't have a standardized shortcut even though that's often the only thing a person looks for up there). Expected behaviour - - What I would like to see is a global option to disable these alt+ menu shortcuts to free up the key for other uses (similar to the option already available in gnome-terminal, only global). Preferably, activating this option would also remove the first-letter underlining in the menu to indicate to users that they can't acess it through shortcuts. - - (I marked nautilus for apport to collect my version numbers, but this affects most applications - didn't know what the right target is) + What I would like to see is a global option to disable these alt+ + menu shortcuts to free up the key for other uses (similar to the + option already available in gnome-terminal, only global). [Bug 830840] Re: Chat window will not open
This seems to be an intermittent bug for men. Soon after login, the message list appears to work ok -- click on a contact, it opens a chat window, adds an entry to the notification tray. Most of the times, the problem occurs after I open the first chat window -- i.e. I start chatting with contact A; soon I need to send a message to contact B, who is online. Clicking on the contact name or drag-and- dropping the contact into an opened chat window does not work. If contacts A and B started conversations with me and I only answered them in the notification tray, I usually can open the chat window via the notification bubble for *only one of the contacts*. Works the first time only, then I can not open any other chat window. Starting a chat via gnome-contacts works correctly. Most of the times, the only solution to have the chat windows back is to close all chat windows and the contact list, disconect from all IM accounts, kill mission-control and then start all over again. Curiously, after I opened the debug window to generate the log, I figured I had regained the ability to open chat windows. Don't think it's related, but 've never seen empathy get back to working correctly... ** Attachment added: mission control log https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/+bug/830840/+attachment/2648366/+files/mission-control-27-12-11_16-08-24.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to empathy in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/830840 Title: Chat window will not open To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/+bug/830840/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 876839] Re: Proxy GUI in 11.10 does not configure socks proxy for HTTP traffic
As I already said, gnome control center does not use GConf anymore for this, since a year already, so what we need is a list of apps that still use GConf, and we need to migrate them to use GSettings or, as a fallback, make them use the correct GConf keys. This specific GConf keys are not used anymore on the GSettings version, so even though we have the GConf keys synced up with their corresponding GSettings keys (via a plugin in gnome-settings-daemon), of course only the keys that are changed in GSettings are synced. This means that the keys we don't use will always have the same value in GConf. So could people list the applications affected, or even better, add a task to this bug for that specific app, so that the responsible for each of those apps can have a look at patching it. But again, there's nothing that can be done in gnome-control-center/gnome-settings-daemon -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/876839 Title: Proxy GUI in 11.10 does not configure socks proxy for HTTP traffic To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/876839/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 878859] [NEW] gnome-terminal occasionally grabs mouse input
Public bug reported: Since I updated to 11.10 last Friday gnome-terminal has been grabbing my mouse input every few days. First I noticed that my mouse clicks and movement stopped being noticed by all apps, and the people in #ubuntu-x told me that it was likely a client had grabbed the mouse, so I killed my running processes one by one, until killing gnome-terminal solved it. Today it happened again, my first measure was killing gnome-terminal, and that solved it, confirming gnome-terminal is the culprit. I have not yet noticed any pattern in what triggers the problem, and I'm not sure on how I should act to find it out. Martin, my plan was to fix the issues that that patch tries to solve in g-c-c 3.2.1 and then completely remove this patch from the package. There shouldn't be any impact for stable users, since we are getting the list of languages from another place anyway, so commenting out that call doesn't really affect much. My plan is to completely remove this Ubuntu- specific patch for Precise and, if possible, in a late SRU for Oneiric. So, this should be safe, has been tested for a couple of weeks now. The 2 variables are initialized at the beginning of the function, so no problem with that. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/864618 Title: sets $LANG to a language name To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/864618/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 876839] Re: Proxy GUI in 11.10 does not configure socks proxy for HTTP traffic
As with the banshee bug (which I just uploaded a fix for), this needs changes in the applications, not gnome-control-center. We have stopped using some of the keys, so their values are not changed in GSettings and hence not propagated to GConf. [Bug 861158] Re: After reverting to no proxy /system/http_proxy/use_http_proxy in gconf stays activated. i
Some of the keys that were used in GConf are no longer used (although are still present in the gsettings schemas in gsetting-desktop-schemas), so even though we are propagating the GSettings keys' values to GConf, some have a different meaning. Banshee should check the host and port keys for each proxy type (http, https, ftp) not the others. In fact, use_http_proxy is not propagated. We are removing the GConf plugin in gnome-settings-daemon for 3.4, and removing all the keys that are not used, so Banshee should really use GSettings ASAP.
