[Bug 2059847] Re: Input lag or freezes on Nvidia desktops with X11 after logging "MetaSyncRing: Sync object is not ready -- were events handled properly?"

[Bug 861272] Re: No easy way to configure default monitor (regression)
Hello, Thanks for having registered the bug. However, please note that even using the technique you propose (that sounds simple), it is actually very complex ! Yet, i don't think that my gnome configuration is odd, i don't use to hack this part of my system. There is no anchor to drag and drop the top panel, and when trying to drag it, it looks to be locked. There is no button to unlock it, even when right clicking to the panel (at least in my locale). The only way i found to move it was to right click on the bar = Properties = Uncheck the Extend box, then it is draggable so drag it, then recheck the Extend box. [Bug 861272] [NEW] No easy way to configure default monitor (regression)
Public bug reported: Whenever a new monitor is plugged, the desktop may switch to an inappropriate screen. System settings should permit to change the default monitor, but they don't. The gnome-display-properties tool (or its equivalent) has regressed from its Hardy version, which permitted to set the default monitor. While the current one, provided by default in the gnome-control-center package, has much less features. This is a very bug for normal users which shouldn't have to: - Install a third party package to do this very basic operation - Rely on drivers and tools of their graphic card, which might not provide a specific tool to handle multi-screen or other basic features - Hack their xorg configuration, as it is proposed in these kind of tutorials [http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/multi-ecran] (i haven't check on ubuntu.com, but i'm sure it is exactly the same) Note that this bug should be considered as important because Ubuntu people often argue that their system is usable by human beings, and then because the tested distribution is an up to date 10.4 LTS (so still supported). ** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: interface -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/861272 Title: No easy way to configure default monitor (regression) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/861272/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 737891] Re: [Arrandale] gnome-display-properties unable to correctly enable monitors connected to VGA
I have the same issue as Dustin. x201 on Ultrabase docking station, connected to a Samsung 225BW monitor. If I connect the laptop to my smallish 17 1280x1024 Sony, I manage to hook it up in dual display mode. But if I try to disable the laptop screen it fails with a black screen /cursor. So I can't really use it in single-screen mode on the docking station. If I connect the laptop to my widescreen Samsung 22, it directly goes to the parasited flashing screen effect. So it looks like there are two separate bugs, one of them being specific to large screens / Samsungs. This is also very similar to what Anmar described at bug 732050. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-desktop in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/737891 Title: [Arrandale] gnome-display-properties unable to correctly enable monitors connected to VGA -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 737891] Re: [Arrandale] gnome-display-properties unable to correctly enable monitors connected to VGA
I managed to get it kinda working. The flashing issue with the Samsung seemed to be in a stale monitors.xml file. Posting for reference: Boot laptop separate, then remove ~/.config/monitors.xml and /etc/gnome- settings-daemon/xrandr/monitors.xml Shutdown. Place laptop on Ultrabase. Boot, system comes up in cloned screens mode. gnome-display-properties, disable cloned mode, set monitor screen resolution, apply. We are now in dual head mode, with the unity launcher on the laptop screen. The only way to get it on the main screen seems to be to disable laptop screen. disable laptop screen, apply. The confirmation countdown apparently runs somewhere else and will revert your change in 30 seconds... unless you press apply again and confirm it. I still have to experiment on how I can make that setup stick... or work with the laptop lid closed on the Ultrabase.

[Bug 404321] Re: gnome-screensaver should allow screen unlock even if account is locked out
Well, it's not totally unusable since you can still switch to another user. And there should be other users available if you're under a domain setup. The whole account locking AD feature is buggy, since every large AD domain user knows they can easily lock out someone else's account. I guess in the end it all depends on how being locked out translates, since I can imagine a bug asking for the complete contrary of what you're asking. In that discussion, it might be worth considering that Microsoft does not apply lockout policy to the screen unlock dialog: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/188700 Maybe gnome-screensaver's unlock screen dialog could be taught to recognize a specific locked error code, but I'm far from convinced we should do that. ** Changed in: likewise-open (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = New ** Changed in: gnome-screensaver (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Wishlist -- gnome-screensaver should allow screen unlock even if account is locked out https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/404321 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-screensaver in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

This seems to be specific to the France - France alternative keyboard, doe snot affect the default US keyboard or the France - France keyboard... [Bug 278112] Re: Screensaver doesn't start
For me it fixes the bug from the description : the screen starts to fade, but then immediately returns to the desktop instead of starting the screensaver. (Note that I still have just a blank screen rather than a specific screensaver if running on battery, but this is not what this bug is about, and I tend to consider this a feature rather than a bug). For those who still report failure with xorg-server 2:1.5.2-2ubuntu1 installed, maybe you're experiencing a slightly different bug, that might warrant a separate bug report. In particular, I know Oliver could workaround the issue by setting xset -dpms in a terminal window, which I couldn't. -- Screensaver doesn't start https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/278112 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-screensaver in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

This is linked to the keyboard choice... To fix it (on both my workstations) I opened my keyboard preferences, clicked + to select a new layout, selected the SAME layout I used to have. Then it appears twice on the list. Select the newly-added one as default and make it the system default. You can get rid of the old one. [Bug 278089] Re: StartupNotify should be false in gnome-power-manager desktop file
I agree it doesn't look very good when you log in. Apparently StartupNotify=true has been there for some time (since 2.14.3-3), and is set explicitely so that a busy cursor is displayed... What seems new in recent upgrades is that the Starting Power Manager taskbar item remains active for quite some time, even on speedy hardware... must be slower to start than it used to ? Or maybe it didn't display a taskbar item before ? Chris: if you agree that StartupNotify wasn't false in pre Intrepid releases, could you update the bug title (I'd propose : Starting Power Manager shouldn't show up on login) ? My feeling is that the problem lies elsewhere, and setting StartupNotify=false just works around it. -- StartupNotify should be false in gnome-power-manager desktop file https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/278089 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 212098] Re: easy file sharing not notifying about logout/login
It should work without re-login, as at windows and mac. If that OS can do that, also ubuntu should. It is more a question of security. On windows and mac, all users are authorized to create shares, unless explicitely denied by their admin in some group policy (on Windows). We can do that too, we just have to ship the /var/lib/samba/usershares directiry with a users group owner, that way all users are by default authorized to create shares. Then it would be up to the admin to give another group to that directory (i.e. sambashare) if he wants to tighten security more... But that's not the usual Linux way, as we don't want to give up security for useability. The best fix to get security and useability is to find some way to automagically refresh group membership, that way we fix this bug but also all others where you ahve to restart after being added to a group. -- easy file sharing not notifying about logout/login https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/212098 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 256256] Re: Unacknowledged reboot required before folder can be shared
Reproduced on current hardy. The problem is that the user gets added to the sambashare group, but the group membership won't be refreshed until the user logs out and back in. It's not really a samba problem, it's more a problem in the design of that nautilus Sharing Options dialog box. It should make clear that the user won't be able to share folders until he logs back in, or do some magic to get the extended rights immediately. ** Changed in: samba (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid ** Also affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Summary changed: - Unacknowledged reboot required before folder can be shared + Share folder: session restart required before folder can be shared -- Share folder: session restart required before folder can be shared https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/256256 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
