[Bug 1026254] Re: Open with on folders was removed, Ubuntu should consider patching back

2015-02-07 Thread Thijs van der Werff
Could the 'open with' be made optional? Default off for the people who
find it offending. And the ability to turn it on in preferences. I miss
this option allmost daily.

[Bug 1352963] [NEW] Evince incorrectly reports password-protected pdf

2014-08-05 Thread Thijs van Dijk
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
1) Download this PDF:
https://secure.ikea.com/ms/nl_NL/TnC/IKEA-webwinkel-voorwaarden.pdf
2) Open it in evince.

If you try the same in acrobat reader (I only tried it on windows), it
opens just fine. So either this file isn't encrypted at all but evince
merely says it is, or, for reasons beyond my comprehension, the file is
encrypted, but the password is somehow embedded in the document itself.

Either way, the end result is a broken user experience for ubuntuers.

** Affects: evince (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1075923] Re: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share

2013-05-22 Thread Thijs
I'm also having troubles when using applications (like Eye of Gnome,
Libre Office, Nemo and Nautilus) in combination with files on a smb
share (via gvfs). Usually when the application hangs up it also becomes
unkillable, so for the most part it requires a logout or reboot to fix
the problem. Needless to say that working files is a major part of
computing and smb shares are very common, so imo this should take
priority.

yep, setting Pidging audio method to ALSA is a reliable workaround for

could it be that the Auto methode defaults to OSS ?

[Bug 406414] Re: pidgins appears multiple times in applications tab of sounds preferences

2012-06-29 Thread thijs van severen
running 10.4, pidgin 2.6.6 (audio method set to Auto)

whenever i watch a youtube video (in chrome) and pidgin generates a sound
during that movie i dont hear the pidgin sound until after i close the youtube
movie (or better, close the chrome tab the video was playing in)
once i close the youtube tab it seems that all the pidgin sounds get played all
at the same time (like they have been queued but had to wait for the youtube
video to stop first)

when i open the sound preference - application tab (while i am watching
the youtube vid) i can see the number of instances of pidgin increasing
(probably with every sound pidgin generates)

this issue also frequently mutes the sound of a video when i start it (it does
not mute the sound once the vid is playing)
to fix this i need to rewind the vid a couple of times and then the video
starts with sound

[Bug 998554] [NEW] Nautilus panes have the same colour

2012-05-12 Thread Thijs van Dijk
Public bug reported:

In Oneiric, whenever you'd open a second pane in nautilus (F3),
whichever pane was active (i.e. clicking bookmark links on the left
would navigate *that* pane) would be slightly yellowish.

However in Precise, they have the exact same colour, making it difficult
to differentiate between the two. (See the attached screenshot.)

[Bug 962033] [NEW] cant copy files to samba share if file contains more than 1 ':'

2012-03-22 Thread thijs van severen
Public bug reported:

if i copy a file from my local HD to a samba share i get

There was an error copying the file into

detail : Invalid argument

after some testing i found that this has to do with the file name. If the
filename contains more than 1 ':' i get this message. only 1 ':' seems to be
ok.

this is probably not nautilus specific issue (rater samba or samba
client i guess?) but this is how i first encountered it

at first it seemed to be retated to Bug #393012, but i guess that's a
different story

i have been using 10.4 since it was released never had this problem

in att you can find the install log ( var/log/apt/term.log) of the

reboot inbetween, so i dont know what part of the upgrade caused this)

[Bug 794929] Re: Disk Utility benchmark, x-axis undefined

2011-07-22 Thread Thijs van Dijk
From the context, I'd say it's the time axis. However, measuring time in
percentage almost seems intentionally confusing.

[Bug 798579] Re: No Sounds Theme ignores its own name and does still play sounds

2011-07-22 Thread Thijs van Dijk
Thanks for reporting back.
If the drums still sound after a reboot, we have an actual problem in gdm on
our hands. Otherwise, it's just an undocumented oddity.

[Bug 814024] [NEW] Sound Preferences dialog has no effect on GDM login sound

2011-07-21 Thread Thijs van Dijk
Public bug reported:

(This is a spinoff of bug 798579)
The Sound Preferences dialog should mirror the play login sound checkbox
from the Login screen dialog (gdmsetup).
Or at the very least, there should be some reference to the fact that there is
another box to be unticked to completely disable all sounds. Currently, this is
not obvious.

(Using Natty, fully updated, x86_64.)

[Bug 807480] Re: Microphone not working

2011-07-21 Thread Thijs van Dijk
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and making Ubuntu better.
I've taken the liberty of updating the ticket description to reflect the actual
problem. Before we can continue, I was hoping you could provide us with more
information.

In particular, which sound card are you using?
Could you paste the output of `lshw -class multimedia`?

[Bug 808498] Re: default LS_COLORS are annoyingly unreadable

2011-07-21 Thread Thijs van Dijk
Though there's a fine line between looks terrible and illegible, I would
agree that the default terminal profile could do with a readability update.
Especially image files -- shown in purple -- can be very hard do decipher
against the semi-transparent purplish black background.

[Bug 793450] [NEW] Calendar applet does not show today's date

2011-06-06 Thread Thijs van Dijk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

The calendar applet (the one visible after clicking the clock) is slow
to update its date field. Only after hiding it once, and showing it
again will it update the date.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Log in
2) Run a session for a day or two
3) Open the calendar applet by clicking the clock. Although the date in the
text field is correct, the graphic calendar still shows the date at which you
either originally logged in, or clicked the calendar before.
4) Hide it, and show it once more. The calendar now shows the correct date.

The conflicting visual data can be very confusing if you only summon the
calendar to find out what day it is. (I don't get much sunlight.)

Using gnome-panel-1:2.32.1-0ubuntu6.5 on Natty.

Re: [Bug 295671] Re: Just crashed while running Update Manager (dpkg return error code 1)

Hi Pedro,

Thank you for improving Ubuntu.

I fixed the problem manualy and didn't do any re-install of the package ever
since so I didn't ran into that error again.

Best regards - Thijs

Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been

[Bug 87879] brightness controlls not working on asus VX1 lamborghini

2007-02-25 Thread Roel Thijs
Public bug reported:

Laptop model: Asus VX1 'Lamborghini'

functions that do not work:

Fn+F2: toggle wireless (antenna symbol)
Fn+F5: Brightness down (full sun symbol)
Fn+F6: Brightness up (empty sun symbol)

Fn+F2 does not do anything, Fn+F5 and Fn+F6 crash X (or Gnome or Beryl,
I'm not sure) and turn the screen black for a few seconds after witch I
get back to the login screen. My session is lost.

I was unable to record any keycodes with the 3 methods provided on
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/HotkeyResearch

At least not for those 3 combinations, other combinations (volume
controls for example) do produce output.

Version: Ubuntu 6.10, fully updated it's a clean install. Problem exists with
standard Gnome and with Beryl.
Steps to reproduce: Boot, hit the buttons.

Identifying my laptop:

ASUSTeK Computer Inc.
VX1
1.0

Please fix at least the brightness controls, it's driving my crazy and
giving my headaches from staring at the full brightness screen all day
(and full brightness on a VX1 is really really bright)
