[Bug 2065432] Re: Unable to authenticate with smartcard: gnome-shell throws on unhandled promise rejection

2024-09-19 Thread Vladimir Petko
Hi,

There was already a SRU upload for noble
---
gnome-shell (46.0-0ubuntu6~24.04.5) noble; urgency=medium

  * Add shell-app-Warn-instead-of-crashing-if-disposed-before-sta.patch
to avoid crashing the shell if an app misbehaves coincidentally close
to a garbage collection run (LP: #2037055)

 -- Daniel van Vugt   Fri, 13 Sep 2024 17:09:18

---

I apologise for imposing extra work, but would it be possible to rebase the
patch on the latest upload?
Please resubscribe Sponsors once the patch is ready.

Best Regards,
 Vladimir.

After transition to snap the Chromium is not usable for me. I have a lot

workaround other then migrating to deb Chrome?

The bug description is perfect and easy to reproduce in 1 minute. The
linked patch is plausible, small and just should be merged!

[Bug 1458536] [NEW] Text in contact's tooltip is almost unreadable (theme error?)

2015-05-25 Thread Vladimir Katilevskiy
Public bug reported:

In 15.04 I have terrible looking contact's tooltips in Empathy with its
content being almost unreadable (screenshot attached).

I compared tootlip section of the file
/usr/share/themes/Ambiance|Radiance/gtk-3.0/gtk-widgets.css to the same
file in Ubuntu 14.04 and found that original one (from Ubuntu 15.04)
doesn't have the next:

.tooltip * {
  background-color: transparent;
}

Then I added this to gtk-widgets.css, switched themes forth and back and
now I have nice tooltips like in previous versions of Ubuntu.

I am not sure if this is Empathy UI bug or Ubuntu's GTK (Ambiance and
Radiance) themes' one. So let's start here.

systemd_204-5ubuntu20.2.debian.tar.gz
Testsuite: autopkgtest

# Steps to reproduce:
 * create an image/partition of sufficient size (1G will suffice for a simple
test) and format with some FS
 * debootstrap like:  debootstrap --arch=amd64 --variant=minbase
--include=language-pack-en,wget,curl,language-pack-en-base  trusty
/target/0481fbd0/root http://bg.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu
 * wait for the debootstrap to finish
 * try to unmount --> fail

# Expected outcome:
 * be able to cleanly unmount the image/partition
 * udev not restarted inside the debootstrap env

The problem lies in the postinst script which does

  invoke-rc.d udev restart.

During debootstrapping we have no ability to configure the init scripts policy
layer to prevent execution. Therefore the udev postinst should check if it is
in a debootstrap environment and if so not start/restart. Other actions like
updating HWDB and seting startup scripts are fine and acceptable.

This bug is analogous to Debian #520742, and Ubuntu #1260707.

The solution in debian is to check for debootstrap env and not
start/restart.

The issue in Ubuntu seems to have been introduced in 202-0ubuntu6 (-
Add debian/udev.postinst for restarting udev and rebuilding initramfs.)

2014-04-28 Thread Vladimir Pycha
The following fixed it for me, in Ubuntu 12.04 Precise, using Gnome
Classic/Compiz:

1) Add the following 2 lines to file /etc/pulse/default.pa:

load-sample-lazy bell-windowing-system /usr/share/sounds/ubuntu/stereo/bell.ogg
load-module module-x11-bell sample=bell-windowing-system

2) Run "pulseaudio -k" to restart pulseaudio.

[Bug 1267996] [NEW] [feature request] find process by clicking on it's window

2014-01-10 Thread Vladimir Rutsky
Public bug reported:

Currently to find which process create window I start "xprop

it's window from System Monitor GUI, e.g. by clicking special button

[Bug 1234453] Re: Terminal freezes during long-running applications

2014-01-07 Thread Vladimir Rutsky
I observed following behavior that may be related to this bug report in
fresh installation of Ubuntu 13.10.

gnome-terminal, pidgin, nautilus (and probably most of Gnome
applications) randomly freezes when I typing text in them: they became
unresponsive (not redrawing themselfs) and after few seconds the may or
may not became grayed out. After few seconds they "unfreeze" and works
as if they never freezed (all entered text appears in application).

This behaviour in gnome-terminal looks very close to described in this
bug report.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-11-25 Thread Vladimir Rutsky
William,

I installed all packages from PPA mentioned in description (ppa:attente
/modifier-only-input-switch). Setting "alt+shift" and "ctrl+shift" works
as before, and also I'm able to set right alt (Alt R) as layout
switching shortcut (with <>)

But now layout switching is somehow slow: after pressing "Alt R" or
"ctrl+shift" I'm able to enter 3-4 characters in old layout before
layout actually switches. This is major issue for fast text entering
using two layouts.

I heard about problems described in this bug report in Ubuntu 13.10, but
when I updated from Ubuntu 13.04 to 13.10 I did't noticed any issues
with setting custom layout switching shortcut (alt+shift or ctrl+shift)
in System Settings -> Text Enty, so I can confirm that it already fixed
in gnome-control-settings.

[Bug 580961] Re: unzip fails to deal correctly with filename encodings

2013-02-10 Thread Vladimir Skvortsov
Ubuntu 12.10 (UI with US English-UTF-8 codepage)

It seems if you KNOW from which SW platform zip file comes from and
codepage, you can successfully unzip the archive without loosing non-
ASCII filenames not encoded in UTF-8.

I just did one experiment to unpack zip file that has been created in
Korean Windows 7 and contains the Korean characters in both zip archive
name and compressed files.

First let's get a local-specific info:

$ locale
LANG=en_US.UTF-8
LANGUAGE=
LC_CTYPE="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_NUMERIC="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_TIME="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_COLLATE="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_MONETARY="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_MESSAGES="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_PAPER="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_NAME="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_ADDRESS="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_TELEPHONE="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_MEASUREMENT="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_ALL=

Let's check the version of unzip utility:

$ unzip --help
UnZip 6.00 of 20 April 2009, by Debian. Original by Info-ZIP.
...
Usage: unzip [-Z] [-opts[modifiers]] file[.zip] [list] [-x xlist] [-d exdir]
Default action is to extract files in list, except those in xlist, to exdir;
file[.zip] may be a wildcard. -Z => ZipInfo mode ("unzip -Z" for usage).
...
-O CHARSET specify a character encoding for DOS, Windows and OS/2 archives
-I CHARSET specify a character encoding for UNIX and other archives

Look at options with the following modifier:

-O CHARSET specify a character encoding for DOS, Windows and OS/2
archives

It is not -"zero", it is -O (capital O letter)!

In my case Korean Windows has EUC-KR codepage. The compressed zip-file
has "2013년 설날" file name.

It means my command line will look like:

$ unzip -O EUC-KR "2013년 설날"

After checking unpacked files, it works! All files have right Korean
encoding without strange characters.

Same issue in 12.04 - every time I try to pair, a kernel panic occurs. I
haven't sent a single byte successfully. The system freezes at the
moment of pairing.

Under 10.04 it says that bluetooth is disabled and there's no way to
enable it.

[Bug 778531] Re: missing dependency or files in python-gnomeapplet

2012-01-11 Thread Vladimir Dobriakov
The workaround on Ubuntu 11.04 is to

aptitude install python-gnome2

which provides `bonobo.ui` python package.

So the bug is the missing dependency to the `python-gnome2` package.

Also compare to the bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/dockbar/+bug/760388

"Segmentation Fault".

[Bug 517021] Re: gvfsd-metadata causes 100% CPU usage

2011-09-28 Thread Vladimir
Why you changed the status to "Fix released"?

What you mean by "fix" - in my opinon periodical manual (or made by
cron) removing of the contents of ~/.local/share/gvfs-metadata/ and
killing of gvfsd-metadata processes could not be treated as "fix".

The problem still persists on 10.04 ans is very annoying, especially
when home directories reside on nfs server: it lead to server's hang
very often: each workstation begins to generate up to 100mbit/sec
traffic.

says there's just read-only support for ISO.

Re: [Bug 667071] Re: archive manager

2010-11-16 Thread Vladimir Vooss
Thanks for your email.
I would like to ask what, in your opinion causes the bug to appear in the first
place?
I was having with the old Gateway notebook's slowness, I installed 10.10
into VMWare's virtual box on my much higher-performance MacBookPro Unibody with
8GB of memory.
10.10 is yet, quite new, very fast.
So far, this bug hasn't shown up, but if you know the conditions that cause
this "rollover",
then I'd be happy to watch out for it as I develop the VMware's version which I
think I'll continue to use, for now.

Thanks for your help,

Vladimir Vooss

[Bug 96676] Re: function keys don't work in gnome-terminal

2010-11-07 Thread Vladimir Smolensky
I guess it won't solve by itself :)
On the other hand I need terminal with tabs... I use 5-6 consoles at a time
with gnome. Using konsole under gnome does not seem right..
Installing konsole on purely gnome system means adding a ton of libs I don't
need and this will eat my disk, crawl the system and slow system updates! nah
