[Bug 2048703] [NEW] Many apps do not display on Wayland/Nvidia

2024-01-08 Thread Eric Morgan
Public bug reported:

Release: 23.10
Expect to happen: Run a flatpak app and it displays on the screen
What happens instead: Some flatpaks fail to display when using Wayland and
Nvidia card. The icon for the app shows in the dash and I can interact with the
icon (i.e. right click and quit) but the app never displays on screen. All
these same apps display properly when running the log in with X11.

I'm no expert but it looks related to Vulkan. Here are the errors seen
in Wayland but not in X11

Easy Effects, Weather & Resources display this:
libEGL warning: egl: failed to create dri2 screen
MESA: error: CreateSwapchainKHR failed with VK_ERROR_INITIALIZATION_FAILED
MESA: error: zink: could not create swapchain

Plexamp fails to display with the following errors:
[48:0108/155953.331435:ERROR:viz_main_impl.cc(196)] Exiting GPU process due to
errors during initialization
[96:0108/155953.441997:ERROR:viz_main_impl.cc(196)] Exiting GPU process due to

[55:0108/155953.531240:ERROR:command_buffer_proxy_impl.cc(127)]
ContextResult::kTransientFailure: Failed to send GpuControl.CreateCommandBuffer.

this warning shows in both Wayland and X11 when running plexamp...
Warning: vkCreateInstance: Found no drivers!

Flacon displays this (only warnings) but displays properly:

[Bug 1548947] Re: Canon printer/scanner driver fails

2019-11-21 Thread Morgan Lang
I have both a scanner and a hp printer. My scanner was connected with my
system previously, so I decided to connect my hp printer with my router.
At the time of connecting, it wanted a WPS pin. I somehow found the WPS
pin on hp printer from https://errorcode0x.com/wps-pin-on-hp-printer/
and connected it. But then my scanner is not working anymore. What
should I do now?

[Bug 1163021] [NEW] Control centre Appearance panel crashes while rendering thumbnails

2013-04-01 Thread Chris Morgan
Public bug reported:

When I open the Appearance panel in the GNOME Control Centre, it begins
loading thumbnails for candidate background images, but after a few
screenfuls (several seconds) it crashes.

This used to be a problem (probably somewhere about 10.X and 11.X, but I
can't quite remember) but then somewhere along the way I *think* it
stopped happening. But I don't try to change the background image at all
frequently... well, now I've tried and it's either still happening or
happening once again.

The backtrace I see when running gnome-control-center from the command
line suggests it's crashing in font rendering while producing a
thumbnail of an SVG file. I'm quite willing to assist further if
desired.

[Bug 1086806] Re: Rhythmbox encoder missing plugin

2012-12-29 Thread Chris Morgan
I confirm that this used to work for me (probably in 11.10, don't think
I tried ripping any CDs in 12.04) but I discovered today that it is
broken in 12.10. I am also using a 64-bit installation.

This is rather a nuisance, as it means I can't use Rhythmbox to rip CDs
for use on another device without a CD drive.

Likewise, I am quite willing to provide any information which may be
helpful to identifying and fixing the problem.

[Bug 1086806] Re: Rhythmbox encoder missing plugin

2012-12-29 Thread Chris Morgan
This seems highly likely to be related to #1084843. That bug has listed
a workaround:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=12337687postcount=3

That workaround seems to be working for me. (I'm now in the process of

[Bug 1067434] [NEW] Sound output device keeps changing when using headphones

2012-10-16 Thread Matthew Morgan
Public bug reported:

Recently upgraded to 12.10. Having issues with sound when using
headphones plugged into the front ports. Something that doesn't happen
when booting to windows - so fairly confident it's an Ubuntu issue.

When listening to any sound, music, video etc the sound levels jump up
and down and click. If I open sound from the settings menu when
playing videos or music and viewing the output tab I can see
headphone - built-in audio disappear and reappear (very quickly) so I'm
guessing the system is jumping back to the analogue output and back
again which is why the sound volume changes and clicks.

Worth noting I never used my headphones when 12.04 was installed so not
sure if it's this OS or Ubuntu hates my hardware generally. Booted from
live cd (usb) to 12.04 and there wasnt any issue.

Anyone seen this before? any advice?

Sound is built in to motherboard. I have the Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5.

[Bug 1030300] [NEW] Incorrectly displays name of iPod touch

2012-07-28 Thread Alan Morgan
Public bug reported:

I am using Rhythmbox 2.97-1ubuntu2, in Ubuntu 12.10.

Upon starting Rhythmbox, the name of the connected iPod touch (say,
'Alan's iPod') is correctly given in the sidebar of Rhythmbox (under
'Devices'). However, upon clicking on it, the text becomes 'iPod touch'
instead.

The expected behaviour is that it stays the same when it is clicked on.

[Bug 993253] [NEW] Turning off on-screen keyboard leaves it on the locked screen

2012-05-02 Thread Chris Morgan
Public bug reported:

System Settings - Universal Access - Typing - Screen keyboard is
initially disabled.

When it is enabled, it may (I can't remember whether or not it did the
first time) ask whether you wish to activate it on the dialogue to
unlock the screen (stating that Onboard is configured to appear then,
but it is disabled in the system). If it does, say yes.

Now lock the screen. The on-screen keyboard shows.

Turn off the on-screen keyboard in System Settings.

Now lock the screen. The on-screen keyboard shows; I didn't want it to.
That's why I turned it off.

There is a gsettings option which is pertinent to this,
org.gnome.desktop.screensaver.embedded-keyboard-enabled. This is
accessible through Onboard Settings (wholly outside gnome-control-
center) by unticking Show when unlocking the screen.

While it is possible to disable it from Onboard Settings, it should be
disabled from the Control Centre in the same way. The current behaviour
is confusing and unsettling.

[Bug 991873] [NEW] Alt+F[n] keyboard shortcuts don't function in new sessions

2012-04-30 Thread Chris Morgan
Public bug reported:

I have historically had three custom keyboard shortcuts:

gVim: Alt+F12
System Monitor: Shift+Ctrl+Escape
Python: Alt+F6

Since updating from Ubuntu 11.10 to 12.04, while the System Monitor
shortcut continues to function, the two Alt+F[n] shortcuts do not
function regularly.

All three are apparent in System Settings - Keyboard - Shortcuts -
Custom Shortcuts; if I select one of the two dysfunctional shortcuts and
either clear it or change it to something else, and then change it back,
it begins to work. However, when I log into a fresh session or restart
the machine, the shortcut becomes dysfunctional once more.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04
Package: gnome-control-center 1:3.4.1-0ubuntu1
ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-24.37-generic 3.2.14

+ (as ^[[17;3~ or ^[[24;3~). This gives credence to my notion that the
+ shortcuts had not been taken by something else (which would give an
+ excuse for their registration failing).

[Bug 976530] Re: Evolution Contacts crashes on saving a new contact if the contact's email address has been cut-and-pasted in from elsewhere

2012-04-08 Thread Simon Morgan
Another possibility is that the bug seems to occur when the new contact
being added has the same email address as an existing contact, i.e.
where two separate contacts share the same email address. Maybe
Evolution does not allow this.

2012-04-02 Thread Chris Morgan
I would like to disagree with the Invalid flag applied by that bot;
this is the live CD for 12.04 Beta 2, thus upgrading packages isn't an
option. As for the stack trace, I dunno about that. Debug symbols not
available while running in the live CD, or something of the sort,
perhaps?

[Bug 929972] [NEW] Unable to interact with MSN contacts

2012-02-09 Thread Alan Morgan
Public bug reported:

Double clicking or right clicking on MSN contacts does not begin a
conversation with the contact or open a right-click menu as expected. It
only highlights the contact. Trying the New Conversation menu item and
choosing a contact results in a Could not start a conversation with the
given contact error message.

It works properly with AIM contacts.

[Bug 818564] [NEW] Nautilus does not remember the unmaximized WIDTH of window

2011-07-30 Thread Eric Morgan
Public bug reported:

Maximize a nautilus window then quit. When you relaunch, it open
maximized, which is fine because you can restore the window to it's
unmaximized size. However it restores to the correct unmaximized height
but the MAXIMIZED width. You can also duplicate this by right clicking
the maximize button, then quitting and relaunching. The window opens in
windowed mode but with the maximum width. Right clicking the restore
button does not reduce the width to normal size.

[Bug 737891] Re: [Arrandale] gnome-display-properties unable to correctly enable monitors connected to VGA

2011-04-26 Thread Todd Morgan
I installed Natty Beta2 this weekend on my HP laptop. I run it with an
Acer 22 external monitor. I prefer the big screen (to the left) as
primary and the laptop screen (to the right) for email and IM.

I only had to edit the ~/.config/monitors.xml to set the VGA screen to
primary to get the setup I needed. After some updates this weekend, i
can no longer get the external monitor to work with Unity. On bootup I
get both screens with the login screen on the laptop. If I choose Unity,
the external monitor freaks out like this...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pK5AfUzg6UA

Mean while the laptop screen has a freely moving mouse, but not much
else. If I go into Ubuntu classic mode, I get Gnome 2 and the
resolutions work just fine. When I try Unity again it freaks out.

I've tried deleting the ~/.config and restarting. That seemed to have
helped..until I restarted. The odd thing is that somehow my left is
primary was retained even without the monitor.xml. When the view DOES
come up it looks like this...

[Bug 630976] Re: Error when attempting to transfer music to iPhone 4

2010-09-14 Thread Morgan GERMAIN
I heard that it was not possible to transfer music to iPhone 4 with
Lucid Lynx.

For me, i have not seen this crash. In rhythmbox, you can drag drop
music to your iphone, synchronization starts but your iPhone remains
empty.

It is not a rhythmbox problem, it is a known limitation of
libimobiledevice.

On www.libimobiledevice.org, you can see that news

23.08.2010: First attempt at iOS 4 music synchronization with an iPhone
4 has succeeded. The new hash algorythm is reversed. Some time will pass
though to clean it up and make iPhone 4 and iPad owners happy again.

In Ubuntu 10.10, libimobiledevice version is 1.0.1, so we can never have
it work, but if we could have 1.0.2, music sync will work with all iOS
versions. iPhone 4 case seems to be different.

Who should be able to test libimobiledevice-1.0.2 with an iPhone 4 to
see if it make sense to upgrade maverick to 1.0.2 ?

[Bug 630976] Re: Error when attempting to transfer music to iPhone 4

2010-09-14 Thread Morgan GERMAIN
S'cuse me, I was wrong. This topic says that versions 1.0.2 maybe work
but NOT the 1.0.2

http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=7t=54306#p318458

iPhone 3G/3GS with iOS 3.x and 4.x works well but not iPhone 4. We
should use latest libimobiledevice's sources to see if it can be used in
ubuntu 10.10 or later in 11.04.

If it is to late for 10.10 release, then i'm sure that Paul McEnery will
integrate it in its PPA :

[Bug 491821] Re: [FFE] Bring back setting for visual system bell

2010-08-20 Thread Mackenzie Morgan
Debdiff attached.

I'm requesting a Feature Freeze Exception for the benefit of improving
Ubuntu's accessibility to users with hearing impairments.

The package builds in pbuilder and installed without issue on my
Maverick VM. I tested it by both watching the value of
/apps/metacity/general/visual_bell change as I toggled the checkbox in
the System - Preferences - Accessibility window and hitting backspace
repeatedly in a gnome-terminal while the setting is enabled. The visual
bell activated as expected.

The patch is almost exactly the same as a similar patch in
debian/patches/ already (#100), except with different names for the
widgets and different gconf keys.

[Bug 533050] Re: Editing item with ampersand breaks XML

2010-07-13 Thread Chris Morgan
At the time it was 9.10 with the standard version of Alacarte.

The way I did this at first was like this:

1. Install Google Chrome
2. Go to a URL which has a query string with multiple arguments - thus a
floating ampersand in it.  For example, http://launchpad.net?;
3. Click on the Page button and select Create Application Shortcuts...
4. Tick Applications menu and press OK
5. A menu item appears in the menu in Applications - Internet
6. Start Alacarte (this time I ran it from the command line as alacarte rather
than via the menus, to get stdout and stderr)
7. Find the added item
8. Disable it (editing it would probably have worked as well, I think)
9. Watch the menu break

With 10.04 though, I can't reproduce this. It seems to me that the bug
has been fixed in between alacarte versions 0.12.4-0ubuntu2 and
0.13.1-0ubuntu1. So under that assumption, I'm closing this bug report
as fixed. Thanks.

It's marked as fixed in Hardy and Intrepid. You're saying it exists in
Karmic now too? When you say totally fresh, do you mean you do or don't
have updates installed? If it was this bug coming back, it shouldn't
take a month either. It should immediately break as soon as you opened
a folder in any application other than Nautilus. Do you fit that
completely reproducible test case? If not, open a new bug.

[Bug 569110] [NEW] movie player play in fast forward mode with no sound

2010-04-23 Thread J Hunter Morgan
Public bug reported:

When playing a standard NA multi-episode DVD, the player will begin
showing the film in fast forward mode, then begin to skip forward
scenes. The sound also cuts out. After a minute or two of this, the
video freezes on a single frame.

I have been able to work around this problem by pausing the video
immediately after I start an episode, then waiting two minutes.

After that the episode will play relatively normally.

[Bug 550054] Re: Power Manager Not putting Monitor to Sleep

2010-03-28 Thread Todd Morgan
Additional Info:

I noticed that when I set the power monitor to put my monitor to sleep,
that after the appropriate time has elapsed, a new icon appears in the
indicator area. When I move the mouse to see what it says, it
immediately goes away. After having looked through the icons in the
default Lucid theme, the icon is the view-full-screen icon. The screen
is not being powered down, but it would appear that there is an event of
some kind happening in correlation with the time that I set the monitor
to power down.

[Bug 550054] [NEW] Power Manager Not putting Monitor to Sleep

2010-03-27 Thread Todd Morgan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

In Ubuntu 10.04, the gnome-power-manager seems to have no effect on my
laptop. I am running my Toshiba laptop with an external monitor and the
laptop LCD disabled. I've set the gnome-power manager to turn the screen
off after 10 minutes (the time is actually irrelevant), but the screen
will never turn off. It doesn't matter if I have the screensaver set to
activate or not. It also doesn't matter how much time I tell the manager
to wait before powering down the monitor. The monitor stays on no matter
what.

[Bug 533050] [NEW] Editing item with ampersand breaks XML

2010-03-05 Thread Chris Morgan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: alacarte

Editing a menu item which has an ampersand in it (), properly encoded
in the XML as amp; before, removes this XML encoding, meaning that the
user gets invalid XML, and the menu vanishes. This is Not a Good Thing.
It means that the menu editor just doesn't open again... so I ran it in
a terminal and got this:

The instance in question was a Google Chrome application item,

following line in ~/.config/menus/applications.menu:

  Filenamechrome-
http___mail.google.com_mail__ui=2amp;shva=1#inbox.desktop/Filename

I disabled it in the menu editor and everything vanished - the amp;
had vanished, leaving malformed XML.

[Bug 181244] Re: libcdio GPL/license violation

2010-01-14 Thread Mackenzie Morgan
For gst-plugins-ugly0.10:
The COPYING file in
http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/src/gst-plugins-ugly/gst-plugins-ugly-0.10.13.tar.gz
and in the package in Lucid and the debian/copyright in Lucid all agree that
the license is LGPLv2.1+

For libcdio:
The COPYING file in http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/libcdio/libcdio-0.82.tar.gz and in
the package in Lucid and the debian/copyright in Lucid all agree that the
license is GPLv3+

If you believe that the FSF does not have the right to choose the GPLv3+
license for libcdio, please take this up with them. Getting it changed
there will trickle down to all distros instead of you having to ask many
individual distros to make changes to the copyright files distributed
with their packages.

IANAL, so no comment on GPLv3+ interaction with LGPLv2.1+

2009-11-23 Thread Vic Morgan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

The mouse pointer jumps all over the screen(s) even without applications
running. Mouse movements cause random jumps, of varying magnitudes, in
varying directions. This appears to be unaffected by the mouse control
settings and is getting progressively worse. This happens with 2
different USB mice. This may (or not) be connected to a general system
debility with everything (e.g. Firefox) slowing to an unacceptable
degree. System Monitor doesn't indicate any demanding processes or

2009-11-22 Thread Mackenzie Morgan
Confirming, as I hit this Friday at UDS.

The odd bit is that Thursday night at UDS it *did* play the DVD instead
of showing that popup, but it still didn't play right. It was all
garbled. I had no success with VLC, though. VLC would display an image
and play sound for a second, then go silent and blank for a few more
seconds.

[Bug 341141] Re: Baobab reports incorrect sizes

2009-06-27 Thread Bill Morgan
I can confirm this bug. I've got several external USB drives formatted
as NTFS. These drives were filled with media files over many older
versions of Ubuntu, though now I'm running Jaunty. When Baobab scans
these drives, it reports a wrong size for almost every folder containing
files with long names. It reports all these folders as contains
hardlinks for: XX GB. However, I have discovered a (tedious)
workaround: if I simply move all the files in that folder to a temp
folder, then move them back, Baobab reports the folder size correctly
(to the first level). However, this does not work recursively down the
tree, so as you can imagine, this can be quite cumbersome if the tree
structure is complicated. The workaround works whether I move the files
using nautilus or with a terminal. Since I have a large media collection
and a complex tree structure, I would like to automate the workaround so
I don't have to touch every file by hand. I have been able to
incorporate the workaround into a script, but it doesn't work
recursively yet. Oh, and speaking of touching the files, touch * is
not enough, nor is it enough to simply rename the folder. I don't know
why, but I have found that the files have to be moved to a new folder,
then back.

[Bug 364332] [NEW] Wrong sound device is chosen for volume control.

2009-04-20 Thread Simon Morgan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

By default, gnome-volume-control selects the ALSA device for volume
control.

This means that when I go to adjust the volume, it is adjusting the
volume of the sound driver itself which, at least for my card, doesn't
work very well. Anyway, I am pretty sure it should be adjusting the
Pulse Audio volume levels.

This can be resolved by right-clicking on the volume control applet and
choosing Preferences and selecting the Pulse Audio device. However,
after doing this, when I use the multimedia keys on my keyboard to
adjust the volume, it still seems to be using the ALSA device to control
volume levels.

[Bug 358494] [NEW] Gnome Panel Crashes on start every time after 2nd monitor disconnect

2009-04-09 Thread Michael Morgan
Public bug reported:

I recently tried plugging in a 2nd monitor to my laptop, using TwinView.
I used nvidia-settings to configure the new xorg.conf, and everything
worked perfectly after I restarted X. However, when I removed the 2nd
screen from xorg.conf and restarted, my panel disappeared, seemingly
permanently. It kinda seems like gnome-panel is expecting to start up on
the non-existant monitor that I had removed, even though I never
actually moved it off of the first screen.

.xsession-errors is attached.

I'm running Compiz, with nvidia drivers, on Jaunty.

** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
