[Bug 403135] Re: Notification area icon wrongly rendered/uses bg_color as a background (multiple apps)

2010-06-01 Thread unggnu
I think it is interesting that KDE4 doesn't seem to have this problems
again (GNOME Panel icons move apparently randomly on session start in
some situations) at least with Wine and some other apps which have a
problem with Gnome/GTK. And the icons are transparent around and I mean
really transparent since the default theme has a transparent panel and
not just a color gradient.

[Bug 59589] Re: display sleep time - why 11 minutes (gnome-power-preferences confusing to the users)

2009-06-25 Thread unggnu
KDE and Windows have at least two profiles. One for battery and one for ac. If
I want to shutdown the display after one minute in Gnome it is not possible. If
I set the screensaver to one minute shuting down the display is possible after
two minutes but at the same time my screen gets locked after 1 minute of idle
which is pretty annoying. The locking feature is important for a laptop so
there is no workaround.
The whole thing is just stupid and I can only think of one advantage. If I set
the display to go to sleep after one minute of idle time it shortly powers down
after locking the screen manually and not after e.g. five minutes. But the
penalties are much more worse.

It is still a kernel issue since it results in a kernel freeze but it seems to

[Bug 358347] Re: [Jaunty] gstreamer output isn't refreshed if overlay xv output and Compiz is used

2009-04-15 Thread unggnu
I didn't have this problem with radeon driver and a rv350 chip which
seems to use overlay too. So I guess it is a combination of the driver
and gstreamer which doesn't refresh like vlc.

[Bug 358347] Re: [Jaunty] Totem doesn't refresh overlay output if Compiz is activated

2009-04-09 Thread unggnu
Well, best thing for fixing is to mark it against Ubuntu :) .
I don't know, Totem works fine in previous Ubuntu versions with Overlay output.
It flickers but it works if the progress bars appeared.

It seems to be a gstreamer problem since the gstreamer-properties
testing output shows the same behavior. If you move a window over it the
place doesn't get refreshed.

VLC works and I guess many other video players so it isn't a general
Ubuntu problem if there is one at all.

[Bug 358347] [NEW] [Jaunty] Totem doesn't refresh overlay output if Compiz is activated

2009-04-09 Thread unggnu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

I have enabled xv overlay with the -intel driver because the image is tearing
without it. If Compiz is activated and the full screen view is used everytime
the mouse is moved the screen appears black until the progress bar is removed
again. If I double click in the full screen window to get a video window the
output is also black. It appears again if the whole Totem window is moved but
after maximizing and scaling down the result is the same.
This doesn't happen with textured video but it is atm no option because of
tearing and it doesn't seem to happen wit VLC so I guess it is a Totem problem
and not a Compiz/driver one.

I am using current Jaunty.

[Bug 122993] Re: ondemand governor does not use maximum frequency under load

2008-11-13 Thread unggnu
This is still an issue in Intrepid. I have a quad core q6600 and it seems that
the ondemand governor uses the highest frequency very rarely.
If I set one core under 100% load e.g. with cpuburn ondemand doesn't scale up.
Most of the times it even doesn't scale up if two cores are under 100% load or
it jumps up and down. The only case when always the highest frequency was used
is if four tasks of burnP6 running.
If I compress a video with mencoder and four threads to H264 (at least 60% load
all the time) frequency still jumps up an down while most of the time the
lowest one is used.
The worst case is if I use mprime
(ftp://mersenne.org/gimps/mprime257-linux64.tar.gz) system monitor shows that
all cores are under 100% load but ondemand still uses 1.6 Ghz instead of 2.4.
If one core is under or nearly 100% load ondemand should scale up. Everything
else would slow the system.

[Bug 236163] [NEW] several gnome autostart apps aren't closed after X crash/restart

If X crashes or is restarted with ctrl + alt + backspace several autostarted
apps aren't closed. This are in standard Hardy installation gvfsd-burn,
gvfsd-trash, trackerd and dbus-daemon.
After trying to reproduce a crash I had over 20 running processes of each of

1.login in gdm and wait some time until all apps are started

my own.
The brightness bar is completely gone. Only the dim on idle button is still
there which works fine. The biggest problem of this is that my laptop always
starts with lowest brightness and it has to be changed with the brightness keys
every time. I guess this bug is connected to every one complaining about
backlight being so dark on start since Hardy.

[Bug 228137] [NEW] sound applet often shows zero volume after loudness change with keys

[Bug 84245] Re: visualisation plugin blocks video output when not active

2008-05-08 Thread unggnu
This still happens in Hardy. Since the visualization isn't shown without
user interaction there would be no problem if the plugin is deactivated
per default. At least as long as Xorg without nvidia driver or maybe
fglrx isn't able to manage more than one active 3D app.

general gnome sound applet problem. It even happens with Compiz.

[Bug 212034] Re: F-Spot crashes? takes up a lot of resources? in slideshow mode

2008-04-21 Thread unggnu
It seems to be a Xorg configuration problem at least for the -nv driver. F-Spot
crashes after starting slide show with F-Spot and -nv driver but it works fine
after running sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg and restarting X so I guess
glx or something like this was missing. I haven't rechecked it with the
proprietary driver but slide show works fine now with free one. The cpu usage
is still high but it reacts fine to commands and changes and there is no 3d
acceleration within the nv driver so it is fine.
Can you confirm that a creation of a new xorg.conf helps?

2008-04-07 Thread unggnu
I can confirm this with current Hardy but it is possible to kill F-Spot with
alt + tab and then close it with force quit. I can see only parts of images
after a long loading time and I never see the control bar.
I have a Nvidia Geforce 440 Go with the proprietary driver.
Standard full screen mode works fine but if I start slide show with the play
button the same happens.

[Bug 202931] Re: Cannot Unmount Volume (But it does)

2008-03-17 Thread unggnu
I can confirm this. It happens with every CD/DVD which is inserted (even video
DVDs which aren't mounted). A file operation isn't needed.
I am not sure if it is a hal or a gnome-volume-manager issue. This doesn't
happen in Gutsy but in Hardy since some time and of course in current.
This is bug isn't really serious but it is annoying and of course confusing for
new users.
