Re: [Bug 223772] Re: hibernate, suspend occasionally missing from shutdown menu
While the first time I logged in I had options other than Log Out and Switch User, those days are gone. :P I can still run pm-suspend and pm-hibernate, although last time I ran pm-suspend the system suspended and then immediately woke up (which it did successfully, however.) Status in gnome-power-manager source package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Sometimes the Hibernate and Suspend options are missing from the GNOME shutdown menu. This happens without any indication from the system of what the cause is. It would be far better if the user were kept informed of what's going on. For example, ghosted buttons on the shutdown menu, with tooltip indications such as GNOME cannot suspend your system because you don't have the required permissions, ...because gnome-power-manager is not running, ...because the dbus session restarted. Another possibility would be a popup notification when the event happens, e.g. gnome-power-manager has died. You will not be able to suspend your system. or dbus session restarted. Your computer will be unusable. [Bug 223772] Re: hibernate, suspend occasionally missing from shutdown menu
I keep seeing this problem --- it regularly ( 50% of the time?) stops me from being able to suspend. Even more annoying, the log-out menu sometimes pops up several minutes after requesting it: by this time if I've decided to leave it unsuspended and left the room, the 60 sec timeout will turn the machine off! Incidentally, I've found that killing gnome-power-manager and manually restarting it from the command line tends to solve the problem: not ideal but at least it makes it possible to suspend when it's really needed. -- hibernate, suspend occasionally missing from shutdown menu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/223772 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I am seeing the same problem with Intrepid, updated as of about thirty minutes ago. I am using avant-window-navigator and have disabled gnome- panel, if that helps. -- hibernate, suspend occasionally missing from shutdown menu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/223772 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 223772] Re: hibernate, suspend occasionally missing from shutdown menu
I am seeing the same problem now with Ubuntu Intrepid beta (as apt- updated yesterday). Hibernate and suspend definitely work fine, but sometimes when I press the power button or menu to System Shut down..., the log-out menu takes a long time to appear (or doesn't appear at all) and when/if it does arrive, the hibernate and suspend options are missing. And then, later, they are available again. [Bug 223772] Re: hibernate, suspend occasionally missing from shutdown menu
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Intrepid Ibex. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your help. ** Changed in: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- hibernate, suspend occasionally missing from shutdown menu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/223772 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 223772] Re: hibernate, suspend occasionally missing from shutdown menu
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in gdm. ** Changed in: gdm (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: None = gdm -- hibernate, suspend occasionally missing from shutdown menu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/223772 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 223772] Re: hibernate, suspend occasionally missing from shutdown menu
Brian, thanks for looking at this; I'm not sure that gdm is the right package; I was referring to the power icon in the top right of a logged- in desktop. This problem may also affect the gdm shutdown interface, but I don't know if that's the case. I didn't/don't know what package that button belongs to, though. -- hibernate, suspend occasionally missing from shutdown menu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/223772 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
