[Bug 1385292] Re: can't rename files in nautilus

2015-02-03 Thread Gizmo Chicken
I was also having this issue. For me, the solution of setting
Keyboard input method system to None ( System Settings - Language
Support - Language tab) offered by dess seems to be fix. Thanks dess!

Still, I want to add a bit more information:

When my keyboard input method system was set to IBus, I had this problem
both on 14.10 and on 15.04. On 14.10, I had this problem when using
the Nvidia 331 driver from the repository and when using the Nvidia 346
driver from the ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa. In the case of 15.04, I also had
this problem when using the Nvidia 331 driver from the repository and
when using the Nvidia 346 driver from the ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa.

However, I have NEVER had this problem (whether or not my keyboard input
method system was set to IBus) on on 14.10 and on 15.04 when using the
NOUVEAU driver. Granted, I only tested for a short while with the
nouveau driver, so I can't say for certain that the nouveau is immune to
the problem.

QUESTION: Has anybody experienced this bug when using the NOUVEAU
driver?

If not, maybe the what we're seeing is an interaction between the Nvidia
driver and IBus.

[Bug 1385292] Re: can't rename files in nautilus

2014-12-27 Thread dess
It looks like it's not Nautilus bug, but IBus.

Workarounds found:

* Disable IBus: set Keyboard input method system to None ( System Settings
- Language Support - Language tab).
* Execute in terminal killall ibus-daemon

This bug should be attached to corresponding IBus bug (which should be
created in case it's not reported yet (sorry, can't do it by myself,
short of time a bit).

[Bug 1385292] Re: can't rename files in nautilus

2014-12-20 Thread John RB
I am having the same issue on Ubuntu 14.10 x86_64 on 3.16.0-29-generic,
when the issue occurs no keyboard inputs register at all. Mouse inputs
work fine to say rename, copy, paste, the navigation keys will work
unless I am renaming file/folder then no keyboard inputs including
navigation key work at all. When this happens I have to close and
relaunch most of the time that fixes it but sometime even that doesn't
and then i have to go ahead and restart the whole desktop session.

[Bug 1385292] Re: can't rename files in nautilus

2014-12-17 Thread Peter
I happen to suffer from this bug also, whenever I have a file or a
folder in the clipboard and then want to change a folder name pasting a
file nautilius loses its functionality (as described above) - the only
way to restore it is to kill nautilius.

2014-12-14 Thread William
Affects me too.
Use two keyboard layouts International one in English and one in Portuguese
Brazilian.
After using the Nautilus for a few moments only the special keys work, the
letter keyboard and numbers for work.

[Bug 1385292] Re: can't rename files in nautilus

2014-12-09 Thread Mathieu Pellerin
I get similar keyboard issues on Nautilus, Gedit, and Filezilla.
Wondering whether its a 64-bit specific issue as my secondary computer
is on 14.10 32-bit and there I am not affected by this issue.

[Bug 1385292] Re: can't rename files in nautilus

2014-11-30 Thread Bizarro
This bug affects me as well. It also affects Chromium Version
38.0.2125.111 Ubuntu 14.10 (290379) (64-bit) - when attempting to use
the backspace key in a comment field on Facebook. This causes keyboard
input to no longer work for the entire application, requiring it to be
closed and started again.

I can confirm the above.
I can also confirm that killing and restarting nautilus helps.

Strange: Ctrl-L does work though.

[Bug 1385292] Re: can't rename files in nautilus

2014-11-21 Thread Eric
Same here. Keyboard doesn't exist anymore for nautilus after a while. I
can kill and restart nautilus (nautilus -q) then I can use the keyboard
again for some time and then nautilus stops reacting to keyboard inputs
again.

Not only with F2 key, but also if I create a new folder (using
contextual menu), I can't give it a name (unless I type the name in a
terminal window then copy/paste it to the folder name.

2014-10-24 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.
