Any update on this issue? It's 2 months later and my fresh ubuntu 18.10 installation is failing on this. Whenever I close the app on a specific page, it never wants to go back. The easiest workaround I found is to close it, then right-click the icon and select "view details". I have no idea what that is supposed to do but for some reason it opens the software centre on the updates tab, or something like that. To get the new version of ubuntu/gnome-software you have to enable "Pre-released updates" in "Developer Options" and allow all updates of ubuntu-software.
