I have created debdiffs for Natty and Maverick. The upstream patch
applied cleanly, only the target file name from the patch has changed.
For those who want to test the change, there are debsin my PPA:

I just updated my installation to kernel 2.6.35-27, but I see no
difference. F2 still selects the file extension ... Has the fix been
released?

No. The recent status change refers to the upstream bug being marked as
fixed in master. The bug is still marked as Triaged in Ubuntu. It
appears that, as of yet, no one has backported the patch to 2.32.0 and
generated a new package. Check upstream for more info.
