This has happened to me several times as well. I could be talking to someone for several minutes and then all of a sudden I won't receive a message for 2 or 3 minutes and by then they already sent a half dozen asking me to answer. Thanks for the report, could you go to the Debug tab, select Haze, reproduce the issue and attach that resulting log file to the report? There's no Haze in the debug window anywhere. I can only see: mission- control, gabble (jabber), butterfly (msn), salut (local-xmpp), Empathy.FileTransfer, Logger and Empathy.Auth. That's it.
