Ubuntu 12.04.5 metacity 1:2.34.1-1ubuntu11 unity-2d 5.14.0-0ubuntu2 When dragging operation is started, an a black box is drawn around the icon and leaves a trail behind it. I could only capture the black box but not the trail with gnome-screenshot. Also it leaves artifacts with tooltips. This is still present in raring :-(. That's two releases of Ubuntu that did not even try to address this ugly problem. It leaves a bad impression on users, especially those coming here from alternative OSes, (where they got used to have graphics just work). (Did you see this stupid -- whatsitcalled? -- You Buntu? This effect can be turned off. Open gconf-editor then go to apps metacity general then untick compositor_effects.
