I am experiencing this with a fresh install of 32-but Lucid on a new
laptop, probably one time in two when booted from cold. The
NetworkManager button (which is leftmost of the group on the right) is
corrupted with the graphic of the adjacent power meter and fails to

There's an interesting bug (or feature?) in Python 2.6 and earlier that
affects multiple applications using Python. The bug allows local or
user-assisted remote arbitrary code execution. Here is the description

Initially user switching works fine. But then it stops working.
When trying to switch to a different users (from the screen to unlock a user)
only an Ubuntu Logo is displayed and the computer name.

session and check if this bug affects you.

Perhaps something went wrong with the upgrade from karmic to lucid.
Recently I did a fresh install on my computer. I've tested again, and
now the video works.
The bug can be closed, unless someone else still has the same problem...
