If I create new terminal using Open Tab or Open Terminal, I get a fresh
terminal. This is sometimes what I want but sometimes not.
We can possibly have an array holding names of such variables, which need to be
'exported' to the new tab.
Or, we can have a checkbox in gnome-terminal menus, if
I suddenly have the same issue. The Keyboard-shortcut CTRL+ALT+T used
worked perfectly until now (using Ubuntu 14.04 with an xfce4-desktop).
But after a restart today this shortcut is ignored (even though it is
still listed in the configured shortcuts and all other shortcuts are
still working).

Addition: Shortcuts resume to work after logging out and logging back in again
by killing all processes with kill -9 -1.
However it was not possible to logout via the menue due to some still running
processes (maybe those open terminal commands I've called via
keyboard-shortcut but which
I do not have this issue anymore since a long time. Might be fixed with
14.10.

This is definitely not a gnome-terminal bug. It's either the locale
system, or powertop.
The correct canonical value is LANG=en_US.UTF-8 with a hyphen. You're
better off using this one rather than anything else.

Installed libgphoto2-6 2.5.3.1-1ubuntu2.2 amd64 and still cannot
retrieve photos from my Canon PowerShot SX20 IS on Ubuntu 14.04. This
worked flawlessly in Ubuntu 12.10. I believe it previously opened in
mass storage mode. Now the device shows up, but I don't see any files.

Thanks for the tip, Phasmus. Killing the process on 14.04 seems to help
my issue as well. Otherwise Empathy is downright unusable given its
wildly inconsistent behavior.

I am having this bug on Xubuntu 14.10 (Thunar 1.6.3) when trying to unmount a
USB 3.0 Seagate 1TB HDD from a USB 3.0 port. I also experience one second off
and remounting after that.
