The CPU seems taken by Xorg (see screen shot). When the gnome-shell proc
take most of the CPU, the overall CPU seems to be reduced after some
seconds.

I'm using a freshly installed and updated Ubuntu 16.04.4, with a laptop
and an external monitor.
When the Brightness & Lock timeout occurs, my monitors do go off at
first, but my laptop's built-in monitor wakes backup up permanently to
the ubuntu login screen.

I think my list of planned fixes for Ubuntu 18.10 [1] will be the best
avenue for helping you because the Celeron 847
I use Firefox Quantum 60.0.1 (64 bits)for Ubuntu with the modules eid
Belgium (issue was already present before installing this module) and
uBlock Origin. The module Open H264 Video Codec provided by Cisco 1.7.1
is installed.

I have two computers. One is a desktop with Ubuntu Mate 18.04 installed
onto it. Evolution 3.28.1.2 is running fine on it although I had
problems overcoming the Oauth2 not found but working fine now
My second computer is a Laptop HP Pavilion with Ubuntu Mate 18.04
We can close this bug report at this point. But I do appreciate the
follow up!
It turns out that there were two problems. The first was that 18.04 had
misconfigured the cryptoswap so that was not working at all. I reported

I just found out yesterday that, if you enable auto-login, gdm never
hangs like this anymore.
This is kinda bad for security and debugging/testing but hopefully it
can still be of use to someone until this bug gets fixed.
Also this is not related to bad gnome extensions as, on my machine, gdm

I received an email from my healthcare provider, Aetna, requesting that
I click on a link to take me to my login screen for a list of claims -
they wanted some information. Using Ubuntu, the link does create a new
Firefox window, but that stays white and never progresses to
