Okay so actually, this is an ATI/Xorg issue. I disabled the proprietary driver, and it works fine, both with gnome-display and xrandr. Now, with the proprietary driver (that I just enabled again), even xrandr slows the computer to display, ran without arguments. -- gnome-display-property eats
