I found that there is some problems when I ran Rhythmbox with the gstreamer- pulseaudio related packages. I had to remove these packages (including the ubuntu-desktop package) with Synaptic and the bug was fixed. I am having a similar problem as well. Totem and Rhythmbox does not work in 8.04.
