It is the only workaround I know of as well, using Backbox 2 (which is based on
Ubuntu 11.04).
I would like to use Ubuntu 11.10 for this instead, since I only use Backbox at

alas i have bad news! It seems to be somehow possible to recreate the
bug effect even with the patched version. I had several nautilus windows
opened while vlc was playing and twice nautilus showed the original
behaviour, while in between working all right. I suspect that the focus

I launched the update manager and I installed all the updates, it said that I
had to do a partial distribution upgrade if I wanted to update everythig.
Pressed ok and restarted computer when finished amd got it working.
I also scribbled for 5-6 minutes in pencil mode and this bug
Nope, I did not reboot (I try to do that as little as possible). I am
willing to give that a try, but we will have to wait till the next
evolution or gconf related update to know if it works.

Some DVDs are encrypted to prevent pirates from copying the movie. While
commercial players already include the required (proprietary and
licensed) decryption software, for legal reasons Ubuntu can not include
it. For this reason, you will need to download and install it
separately.
Be wary of
users who may not be aware changing resolutions or using external
monitors with these drivers requires the proprietary panel.
