I experience the same problem.
I think it is very important one. If you do not have the LibreOffice
icon in the launcher before upgrading, you will not be able to add one.
That's because besides not being visible using alt-tab, the icon does
not appear in the launcher if not executed from there.
Thank you for your bug report, that feature got deprecated by GNOME 3.2
upstream, you can install gnome-sushi from universe to get a previewer

All icons appears as a simple retangle in the Nautilus
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but
Oh, and this workaround should be fine for all:
In terminal:
sudo killall -u lightdm syndaemon
synclient Touchpadoff=0

lightdm starts a syndameon instance which is not terminated upon session
startup.
So there is the conflict: two syndaemon instances, one from lightdm and one
from logged in user.
Just experienced this problem after going from gdm back to lightdm.
This does not happen with gdm.
