To follow up on my earlier comment. The Dell Inspiron 15 with the Intel
wireless became stable when I disabled the internal wireless and added
an AirLink101 AWLL6075 wireless USB adapter. I suspect a regression in
the Intel wireless kernel module.

Janez Stupar is right. I restarted in Ubuntu, checked for updates and
the following update was done:
xserver-xorg-video-intel:amd64
(2.20.10+git20121015.b42d81b6-0ubuntu0sarvatt~precise,
2.20.12+git20121022.4dfc8335-0ubuntu0sarvatt~precise)
After that i restarted Ubuntu and the problem was solved
Just tried the latest driver 12.10 from the AMD website. Same results...
Still no Unity!
