I guess, this was the issue happening in hplip-3.12.6 version.
However this problem has been fixed and released in hplip-3.12.10
release.
Those who are working on Kubuntu/Ubuntu 12.10, it has hplip-3.12.6
version. Hence requesting the people to install latest hplip from
www.hplip.net
I just tested latest testing branch.
There are some interesting changes:
- back light on eDP is now on.
- eDP is recognised but stays blank
- if i press Fn+F8 to change display, i get corrupt display on VGA. Then, after
second press, both eDP and VGA work!!!

After a few months without issue, the Network Manager applet has
suddenly disappeared from the tray not long after booting into Ubuntu. I
am filing this bug report based upon the instructions provided for bug
#43379.
