I have amended /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf so that the last line now

and this seems to have got the laptop speakers working but I have lost

Same problem here. Unfortunately I cannot downgrade cups from 12.10, so
this issue es critical in the sense that I have no control of the print
server. If this problem is not fixed soon, I will be forced to come back

synclient reveals that the palm touch is registered as a 3-point touch,

I too have experienced this hard freeze, which requires me to power off the
machine. It happens maybe once a day, if that. It usually happens after I've
been doing a variety of different things for a few hours. From what I can
