The problem comes the version of GTK+2, witch comes with Ubuntu.
I linked GIMP 2.8.2 against GTK+2.24.15, witch i installed on the system, and

My freezes were complete. No mouse. No keyboard. No activity. No ping. Only
way out was a hard boot.
The freezes happened within an hour or two, sometimes less.
I loaded a fresh copy of the new 12.04.2 I guess the quantal kernel this has

same problem here. it works fine when I first boot the system. but I can
always reproduce the hang this way:
Boot ubuntu, open pidgin, see that it works fine. Log out to lightdm.

No, there is a slightly more complex procedure to rebuild the actual deb
package for -intel so that it is listed correctly by synaptic. This
simply replaces the intel_drv.so used by the Xserver, and will be

Fresh install of raring, I tried to open a writing template and it said
it was necessary for jre to be installed.
I'm installing the recommended packages to see if it'll help. Previous
versions did not have this issue.
