Install Alsa
Install Ubuntu-Desktop
add sudo killall pulseaudio to /ect/rc.local
It still loads pulseaudio and its applications but kills the pulse
drivers that run audio handleing on startup.

I have been using the gnome desktop in Ubuntu 14.04 and the issue does
not occur in gnome. I've also tried KDE, Gnome Classic, the other two

This pops up for me every once in a while. I think this might affect
14.10 alpha as well, but it could be the affected component is still
from 14.04 and hasn't been changed for 14.10.
