I cannot select the search engine for the search bar. Clicking on the
magnifying-glass-symbol reveals a little rectangle indicating there
should be a drop-down menu. But no drop-down menu is shown.

Context: I'm using compiz with workspaces on ubuntu. I switch workspaces
pretty frequently.
When I run an SSH command, sometimes gksu is needed to unlock the key
(and sometimes it is not).
If I run such a command, then quickly switch workspaces, the gksu dialog

Problem started when i tried to connect to a Samba4 machine (ubuntu 14.04.1)
from a 12.04. I had the password loop on the 14.04. to try and reach the 12.04
(samba 3.6.3-2).
So I thought, I update the 12.04 with samba4. Now I have the password loop on
that machine aswell.
