Hi All.
I am getting system freezes on a dual boot base unit with Ryzen 1700 and
a R9 380 graphics card. I'm running Kubuntu 19.04. The whole system
locks up and I have to hard power down with the power button. This is
happening at least once a day. I don't think its worth trying fixes #43
Both of my machines are now on 19.04, I'm still seeing the issue. I've
got all extensions turned off.

Thanks for the reply. Earlier, taking suggestions from the community I
used the default video player and mpv video player which I downloaded
from the store app in 18.04. Both work fine with the same files without
any freeze. I think it crashes only with the VLC.

It would appear that something has changed in the Android emulator, and
it's less likely to be the cause of the crash.
I'd expected to simply run gnome with animations turned on, run the
emulator, get a crash when switching desktops. While this now seems
more stable, it does occasionally crash.

That's not completely surprising if the "freeze" isn't caused by a

Using selenium to drive firefox requires an executable called
geckodriver, which is nowhere to be found in Ubuntu packages. Instead,
all the information I could find on the internet suggests fetching that
executable from upstream and installing it to /usr/local/bin (see e.g.
I have installed GNOME Shell 3.28.4-0ubuntu18.04.1 from proposed.
I have tested this fix by dragging an icon up and down the launched with
my finger and dropping on it on icons. In the past I could lock up the
shell very easily. Now I can't get it to crash at all.
Marking as verification done.
In a recent test with MaxJobs of 4 I was easily able to reach over
65 GB of memory consumption within 60 mins, while with LogDebugHistory
set to 0 the consumption was below 400 MB.
My recommendation is to lower the default LogDebugHistory value back to
what is upstream: 200.
