And I really don't understand why this has so low priority. I have been
able to trace this problem back to 2012!!!?!
And it is really blocking ordinary users from working with a Ubuntu laptop.
My usecase:
I just installed Ubuntu 19.10 on a

unfortunately I am not an expert. Can anyone help me what to do? I
copied /usr/bin/gnome-shell to /usr/bin/gnome-shell.bin and made a
script in /usr/bin/gnome-shell:

1) switched to nvidia;
2) worked for a while with it for a while with 5.3.0-19-generic;
3) got a kernel update to 5.3.0-23-generic;

What I found is:
1) /lib/modprobe.d/blacklist-nvidia.conf gets created if you switch to
updateinitramfs used to be run previously, however, this was removed at
some point (introduced into the distro in Cosmic/18.10):
