I still have the laptop with Ubuntu on it could use that as a portable
solution.

Yes.
I was running 10.something, then 11.04.
I usually wait a year before upgrading anything. Microsoft trained me to
be cautious, as they seem to let the users do their major debugging. I
want to be paid for that! But, Apple and Linux also have problems with
upgrades and bugs. In

I will check the list, but in the meantime, please understand that I
used SimpleScan with this same scanner just fine with Ubuntu 11.04. It
was not until I upgraded to 11.04 that I encountered this problem.
I did find drivers on the Avisys (?) and Epson sites... e.g.

I selected files and dragged them to Brasero. All files were listed in
Brasero.
I got the msg. asking if I wanted to burn across several media. I
clicked Yes, the button depresses but nothing happens.
I tried closing Brasero and trying again; no luck.
Selecting only 1
Still a problem with me, too: Natty 11.04.
