Oh and is it really the settings-daemon that is affected or is that the
indicator (or is the indicator part of the settings-daemon)

One workaround (this really doesn't deserve the name...) is to just
open the disk space analyzer and keep it in the background. This mutes
the messages.
Would really be nice if this bug would be fixed asap, it's things like
these that make Ubuntu less and less fun to use with every release.
