After the upgrade of ubuntu to 13.10 there were multiple problems. There was a
message that the swap was not ready. (i believe that the swap was encrypted
during the original install.) I followed instructions to change the swap so it
was not encrypted. Then the boot
The zip file came from http://gradle.org/downloads
Specifically, from

I downloaded it to directory Downloads
The directory was opened in file manager PCManFM
Right click and select Expand Here...
