This has gotten even more annoying in 14.04, though my problem is a tad
specific.
I have set the keyboard shortcut “Switch to next source:” to Left Shift+Right
Shift (used to be X server's default). However this have an interesting side
effect in some cases: now just pressing (one) Shift key to
, post upgrade, this file belongs to texlive-base, not tex-common:

I am experiencing the same problem. Xubuntu 14.04, all updates until
02.04.2014. My system is a lenovo x200 with intel graphics.
When I resume from suspend-to-ram, I get the password screen as
expected, but at minimum screen brightness. This can be corrected with
the screen brightness hotkeys.

This looks like a KDE4 backend problem. Doesn't happen with we GNOME backend.
For me not only this Window is transparent, but the whole application stops

This is quite an old bug indeed.
The system in question was upgraded to ubuntu 13.04 or 13.10 (don't remember
exactly) which resulted in a black screen when X was supposed to have started
and an unusable system. I did not investigate this deeply but instead did a
fresh install of Xubuntu
Two days ago (2013.12.29) there were an update of akonadi in Kubuntu
13.10... and after several reboots I could say there had been no more
problems
Sadly the bugs in nvidia 319.x and 331.20 can cause several other
problems too (in Ark, Amarok and kwin effects, for example). Only nvidia
325.15 is
@neutrino
As you see, many users have confirmed that it's an nVidia bug, and it affects
other apps too. So, the Akonadi devs can do nothing about it.

and Akonadi started well every time.
BTW, most of the random problems I mentioned in Comment 25 were caused
by nvidia-331.20 too. Even Amarok didn't exit on quitting sometimes.

Re-reading the previous comments, I think this bug report has become a
collection of different causes for pulseaudio not starting up. Let me
know if I should file a new bug for the specific behavior I've seen with
module-zeroconf-discover being required when it shouldn't be.

Had the same problem on a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04.3.
Two audio cards with snd-hda-intel:
$ lspci -v | grep -A6 Audio
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 8 Series/C220 Series Chipset High
Definition Audio Controller (rev 04)
Subsystem: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd Device a002
tool,
e.g. 'gphoto2 --get-file 1', this works.
It also works if I copy files with cp in a terminal from gvfs-
mountpoint mounted at /run/user/my_userid/gvfs/my_camera_mountpoint .

Also seeing this user at the login screen, upgraded from 13.04. Rebooted, but
it's still there...
If I click switch user after first logging in, the Light Display Manager
user disappears.
But its back after a reboot. :P
