The latest aptdaemon fixes the problem:

- set status-fds inheritable to fix InstallFiles()

It severely affects packages beyond the one that causes the flaw.

A work around is manually
Me too affected by this same problem while upgrading Intel Graphics
Drivers Utility [See attachment].
But this sorted out my issue [it seems] - sudo dpkg -i packagename.deb
