I'm closing this issue earlier than normal as I'm moving away from
reviewing bug reports that have received little or no attention in
recent times and there have been no comments to suggest that the
reported problem is still an issue when using a currently supported
release of Ubuntu.

We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all
reported bugs in a timely manner. This bug was reported some time ago

I experience this issue with Ubuntu 16.04 on an Asus UX303LN laptop. The
temporary fix of installing xserver-xorg-video-intel seems to work for
me too.
I can provide log-files or test fixes if that would help us resolve the
problem.
Is bug #1575301 a duplicate of this one?

Thanks for the temporary fix.
It works for me.

Christopher and Marcin,
I do agree that bug 1574266 is related to this bug. Actually I suspect
that if that bug is resolved, this bug can be closed as a duplicate.
Both bugs are due to the graphics problem. However I have only been able
to reproduce it with Libreoffice. I filed the bug in libreof

Of course it is related, because both bugs report similar symptoms --
Xorg crashing/freezing with "drm/i915: Resetting chip after gpu hang"
error after running Libreoffice. Of course LO is an unlikely cause,
rather it is something in Xorg, so the other bug is more appropriate.

Marcin Sochacki, I'm not sure why bug 1574266 has anything to do with
this report, as the original reporter didn't file it.

There is already an appropriate bug 1574266 I think.

Mattias Lundmark, to advise, the scope of this report is only
LibreOffice crashing (not other programs, or collateral damage from
this).
Regarding the GPU hang, and x ultimately crashing causing the session to be
booted back to the login screen, it will help immensely if you filed a new

Christopher,
No, there are no log files in /var/crash.
There is no possibility for the error reporting tool to start here,
since the unity/lightdm crashes and the user is required to log back in.

Dear Mattias,
After re-installation I managed to cancel the recovery of the two

Dear Mattias,
I don't want to send the password protected document because it contains
all my usernames and passwords. I hope you understand. I tried to create
a new password protected document, but as soon as I get the pop-up
window to enter my password, the system crashes again. I now get the

Dear Mattias,
Thanks for following up on this.
I checked in the crash folder and there are no files related to this
crash. If I open a password protected document in Writer, the computer
crashes after I enter the password of the document. It goes back to the
logon screen within a few seconds. T
Mattias Lundmark, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better.
To clarify, after all the crashes, are there any crash files in
