Kernel 4.4.21 LTS The above-referenced kernel was released today. It may (might) resolve the regression I have experienced that keeps me from using Ubuntu 16.04.1 (believed to be an i915 driver issue). To find out I need to try the kernel in Ubuntu. If I install from an .iso (16.04.1) and select

You don't say whether there is any reason to believe there might have been a change to address the regression that affects my system. Even so, I will try to get to the store tomorrow and try the new kernel, as you suggest, as soon as I can - maybe tomorrow evening. If it works for me Iĺl let

RD, it is most helpful if your testing results are from Ubuntu specifically (not derivatives, etc.). To advise, Trusty with the original 3.13 kernel is fully supported as outlined in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack . This would also help here as you would have a working

Christopher: I am glad to receive this; I thought my issue was dead because of my inability to perform the requested bisections. I have switched to Mint 17.3 MATE because it still uses the 3.19 kernel and is supported until 2019. If I understand you correctly, your advice is that is that I

RD, to keep this relevant to upstream, please continue to test the latest mainline kernel as they are released (newest is 4.8-rc3). Could you please advise? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu.

Support for kernel 4.2 would have been nice in the new release 14.04.5, as it would have allowed those affected by this to still use an updated version of 14.04 LTS... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu.

Christopher: I have surveyed the pages you reference about how to perform bisects, and determined 1) that I cannot invest the time required and 2) I do not possess the technical ability required. My shortcomings are exacerbated by the fact that to perform the series of tests needed I must have

RD, the next step is to fully commit bisect from kernel 4.2 to 4.4 in order to identify the last good kernel commit, followed immediately by the first bad one. This will allow for a more expedited analysis of the root cause of your issue. Could you please do this following
