I use macOS 10.13.6 (I already had verified bugs, Theme for example, that do
not occur with older macOS versions)
I had the issue on my usual profile and checked that I have it with a new
profile (that is the case) to take apart a personal setting or profile
corruption.

The new profile step isn't necessary no, it does the same on an existing
profile. There is no warning/error on stderr not the in debug console

I'm not seeing this with beta on mac 12.4. But not a new profile. Is a
new profile absolutely necessary step?

I can observe the regression in a kinetic VM with the beta snap. The
stable snap isn't affected, so that's a recent regression.

Worth noting that I refreshed my snap to stable (102.5.0-2). When I
launched it on the cli, it gave me a window saying my profile was no
longer compatible with this older 102 version of thunderbird. Still
though, when I launched it, I see:
heather@fenrir:~$ sudo snap refresh thunderbird --stable
If you go to the Account Settings in thunderbird, click Manage
Identities (this screenshot).. then you see a list of your identities
tied to that account. When I click Edit for any of them, I see the blank
window (attached in description).
