Adding to Aaron's exposition, clicking the app icon with the erroneous waiting to install status fails to launch said app. This happened once with gparted on a fresh Ubuntu 12.04 install. Checking if reboot solves the problem... ** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 966189 Launcher
