I just ran into this problem trying to mount a SD card. ALL of my
filesystems, except for one, are ext3. One is ext4. My root filesystem
is ext3.
So, two of the above workarounds look better to me than manually
creating /media/$USER. Which would be best:
A) Adding 'tmpfs/media
One less affected (no more): PC died

Screen is turning off when it must
It seems that mostly systems with ext3 root file systems (like mine) are
affected, so the correct fix should be adding acl support like Yann
Aubert suggested.

More info: I also noticed that the downloads window is blank, not
listing any downloaded files. I used sqlite3 to open downloads.sqlite
directly and received an error message that suggested the file was
corrupted.
I deleted the file, restarted Firefox, and the Save issue was resolved.

Still haven't found a way to get rid of this blinking cursor.
It is not only the case with Unity(tested with Ubuntu 12.10 fresh
install), but also with xfce (tested with Xubuntu 12.10 fresh install,
fglrx install per apt-get install fglrx fglrx-amdcccle, all updates
installed).
