** Description changed:
I'm seeing the same symptoms as described by:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
nouveau/+bug/1020221
I thought it would be worth reporting, because I just upgraded to the
new Ubuntu 13.10, so it hasn't been resolved yet.
Ok, when the problem will be fixed?

the major problem is how pulseaudio know when the headphone or speaker
share the same volume control if the driver create Bass Speaker Volume
in your case the subwoofer is connected to the mono pin which downmix stereo
to mono
the driver just copy front channel to both DAC instead of using 4
do you mean that you cannot change the volume of subwoofer by alsamixer
-c0
Simple mixer control 'Bass Speaker',0
Capabilities: pvolume pswitch pswitch-joined penum
Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right
Limits: Playback 0 - 42
Mono:
Front Left: Playback 42 [100%] [0.00dB] [on]

Multistreaming lets you listen to two different audio sources on two
different speaker sets. For example, you can listen to one audio source
through the back panel speakers and a second audio source through front
panel headphones

OK, so I used hdajackretask to set jack detection to 'not present' for
the front and back mic inputs, and things work as expected (I can select
them from the 'sound settings' gui)
So is this just my sound card claiming that the front mic has jack sense
when it doesn't, or is there a bug in the
