I agree, the entire interface freezes and I can not seem to give any
keyboard or mouse input without restarting.

This bug is still very much present and has worsened in Ubuntu 14.10.
Follow the above workarounds (especially comment #3, as comment #4 seems
to be less helpful on 14.10 ). This bug needs to be fixed.
