What's the output of sudo systemctl status NetworkManager-wait-
online.service network-online.target for you? We do enable this unit by
default, so it should wait (this works fine here and for many other
people I've talked to).

X1 Carbon 3rd gen. For example the shutdown menu and all the other

Ok, I was able to login in 14.04 and can confirm this issue. But gnome-
session did exit on logout so problem is somewhere else.

What do you mean with all processes still running? From .xsession-errors files
looks like programs are closed:
App gnome-panel.desktop exited successfully
App unity-settings-daemon.desktop exited successfully
