Are you sure that you have tested this against an outdated-message and
not another message? Because this problem was reported because setting
the option splash to False did not solve this issue.

This is a problem that won't be solved in Ubuntu until we use Unity8 +
Mir for displaying. Other systems are already using greeters as
lockscreens, so the work has been done for this.
Closing lightdm and unity-greeter tasks to reduce any confusion.

Once I purged amarok* (sudo apt-get purge amarok*) I could then
successfully re-install and run Amarok.

I am using Ubuntu 16.04 64-bit and I have tried every option I can find
on this thread and on google but nothing seems to work.
The only thing I can do is change my entire systems DNS to the DNS
servers of my VPN service for now.
