No longer think this is a network-manager issue. On a fresh install I
changed over to kernel 4.8.0-41 but did not perform any other updates
and had the same issue. If I boot with the default 4.4.0-53 kernel I do
not have this issue.

May I add: I misspelled a few words, and as described above, clicking
on the proper spelling did not change them, so I corrected them manually
and that worked for all but one word: Imbecile. No matter what I did
the red underline kept reappearing, even after I deleted it and typed it
anew! The

Regardless of whether you have a single GPU or multiple GPUs, using
OpenGL is a matter of "send it commands quickly and then forget (the GPU
will complete them later)". So I'm not sure why QSG would bother with
multi-threading GL at all. Similarly Mir doesn't really need to do the
multi-threaded
The test case with kate works correctly in mir_proving_server (Alt+F4
brings up a Save Documents dialog). It's only failing in Unity8.
And gedit apparently has the same Alt+F4 bug under Mir demo servers so
GTK may need fixing too.
